Barack Obama -- Bigot.
"White House spokesman Robert Gibbs today indicated that President Obama will not intervene to keep gay servicemembers from being dismissed from the military, despite his vow to end the "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" policy."
I defy anyone to be surprised.
Barack Obama Turns His Back On Gay Servicemembers
Imagine the progressive Obama refusing.
The mind boggles. Well, it proves he is nothing more than a politician pure & simple.
So much for change.
Not surprised, but truly disappointed.

"And I will direct my Secretaries of Defense and Homeland Security to develop procedures for taking re-accession requests from those qualified service members who were separated from the armed forces under Don?t Ask, Don?t Tell and still want to serve their country. The eradication of this policy will require more than just eliminating one statute. It will require the implementation of anti-harassment policies and protocols for dealing with abusive or discriminatory behavior as we transition our armed forces away from a policy of discrimination. The military must be our active partners in developing those policies and protocols. THAT WORK SHOULD HAVE STARTED LONG AGO. IT WILL START WHEN I TAKE OFFICE. America is ready to get rid of the Don?t Ask, Don?t Tell policy. All that is required is leadership.?
Barack Obigot, November 2007, about the leadership that he is not apparently going to be supplying.
Then why did every gay person say that I was supposed to vote for him?

Because, MTVMANN, Barack Obigot LIED to the gay community, telling us that he was going to be our advocate for change in Washington. He has shown his true colors by refusing to do the bare minimum to make that change happen.
He always said that he thought that marriage was between a man and a woman...and only a man and a woman...right?

That's right, he's always been a total bigot on that score, and continues to be to this day. This particular bit of betrayal on gay servicemembers is really ugly, as it goes completely against what he used to pretend to stand for.
I've heard folks defend Obama by claiming that Obama is merely pretending to have that opinion about gay marriage, that he only holds that position in order to get elected. They're probably re-considering.

I find Obama so disappointing in this regard, and always have. But the likelihood of popular liberal (and hopefully moderate) sentiment swaying Obama to take action sometime in the next 4 years is still far higher than the chances we'd have under McCain. I'm not saying that Obama's stance is good enough, but I still believe it's better than the alternative.
By all means, keep him to task with vociferous outcry. But I can't help but feel that adopting Roscoe's attitude is going to cause us to lose the plot.

You, apparently, don't get what my post means. Besides, this is the Off-Topic Message Board, not the one about Broadway musicals. Even if it were, what a horribly homophobic thing to say!
Well, explain yourself because I thought that YOUR post was homophobic!

Sorry, but it is the attitude one tends to get when the President of the United States decides to endorse bare-faced bigotry against the minority to which I happen to belong. Bigots can't expect politeness from those they seek to oppress.

I didn't say bigots deserved politeness, per se. I just don't think much of your communication style. Even when I agree, I'm rolling my eyes with the curmudgeonly hyberbole. Though I'm sure it's not meant to, it kind of reads like borderline trolling.
I wanted Hillary but he's better than McCain.
...Oh, oh, oh,
Deep in my heart
I do believe
We shall overcome
Someday.
Speaking of Hillary Clinton...what was up with all the "Blame Hillary" threads and comments that surfaced around here.
I didn't understand it at the time.

"he's better than McCain"
I'm sorry, but considering what we've been watching unfold, I can't understand what you think the difference would be.
The war continues - escalating, actually. And the bailout corporate ass-kissing begun by Bush has been taken to ridiculous heights.
I think many people are blinded by what they wish would be, and can't see what really is.
I will say that PJ was amongst the few I encountered who was aware of the dangers of Obama's religious ties.
I'm not surprised by anything that's unfolding.
What is his religion?

One word responses are so amazing when they are correct.

I'm pretty sure that using "we shall overcome" in this context is racist.

He's barely been in the White House for 100 days, and has accomplished a lot more that Bush did in 8 years.
Obama will be in the White House for 8 years. Sounds like it's a little early to say that he's not going to do anything regarding "Don't Ask, Don't Tell." He's got bigger fish to fry these days. The economy is his first priority.

Obama promised to work with military leaders and Congress to repeal DADT. He didn't promise to do it within the first 100 days (at least I don't think he did), and he didn't promise to use executive power to circumvent an act of Congress. That's a HUGE step.
