This year I think that Bill Murray was robbed of an Oscar nomination for "St. Vincent". The screenplay and Naomi Watts should have been nominated also. What are some other people or movies that deserved Oscar nominations or win Oscars that didn't get them?

Instead of having a firm number of 5, rules should be relaxed to allow for more nominees in years where there are a number of strong performances.

This year Bill Murray for St Vincent should have gotten a nod but did not.

Agreed, but The Ice Storm deserved a ton of nominations.

I can't believe I'm saying this, but I agree with Mr. Roxy re the number of nominees. I get that the prestige comes in being selected the top 5, and yet the huge omissions this year for some of the acting races were rather unfortunate (how David Oyelowo was not selected is beyond me).
Naomi Watts should have definitely gotten in this year for turning in excellent work in ST. VINCENT and BIRDMAN.
In terms of other years, the ones that always come to mind are ones that should have won but weren't even nominated: Nicole Kidman for BIRTH, Naomi Watts for MULHOLLAND DRIVE, Dennis Quaid for FAR FROM HEAVEN, and Matt Damon for THE TALENTED MR. RIPLEY.

I think that Kathy Bates and Jennifer Jason Leigh should have been nominated for "Dolores Claiborne". I think that since the Academy made the Best Picture category larger from five to the maximum of ten nominees. They should do the same for the acting nominees...

Ennio Morricone never won a competitive Oscar, despite literally hundreds of movie scores. "The Mission" was beaten by Herbie Hancock's "Round Midnight" music, which I'm sure is great, though I've never heard it.

A great actress? Probably not, but certainly a good one. She deserved to be at least nominated for "How Green Was My Valley" and "The Quiet Man", in my opinion. Plenty of lesser performances have been nominated and even won over the years, so why not?
