A certain poster has threatened promised to give PJ a surprise today at 10:00 a.m.
Since I'm pretty sure PJ neither wants nor cares about that "gift", I thought we could give him something that he will appreciate.
So this one's all for you PJ!
Some classic footage of Broadway divas:
The Uncle Sam Rag with Elaine Stritch from Redhead:

Judy and Ethel! (one of my all time favorite clips):

Patti LuPone blows Gabriel's Horn:

And the gone too soon Nacny Lamott:

I loves me some PJ!
I shared this in the Seesaw thread:
Michele Lee:

Bette Midler in Fiddler! (and some other fabulous Broadway moments):

I loves me some PJ and I loves me some Taz!
Well done, Taz! Well done!
A PJ suprise thread is NOT complete without something from FOLLIES.
Here is Lee Remick performing "Could I Leave You"?

And of course here is Miss Dolores Gray performing "I'm Still Here"
and of course the one and only YVONNE DE CARLO finishes off the I'M STILL HERE parade:
Oh, yay! Nancy and Patti and Bette and Michelle and T=Elaine and Judy and Ethel and FOLLIES clips!
What a wonderful--and appropriate!--way to start sitting shiva for my beloved Tante Joan.
Thank you for my big surprise!

Aw. I was trying to post a really cute picture of a young Judy Garland and Clark Gable for Pal Joey. It keeps screwing up. So sorry.

I am indeed. Of all my divas (and there are plenty!), Ella is the only one I saw live, repeatedly.
We should all attend live performances of the singers and comedians we love, as often as we can, as often as budget and geography will allow, because those performances stay with us for the rest of our lives.

I think Miss Margaux would approve of that picture.
Awwwwww...little Asta puppies! Look at the powder-puff face on the one on the right!

I want to hug them and squeeze them.
Let's throw some attitude in this joint:
Ruth Brown & Linda Hopkins: Tain't Nobody's Bizness
Now that was some SANGIN'!
I saw Black and Blue twice. Miss Brown also delivered a memorable "If I Can't Sell It, I'll Keep Sittin' on It (I'm not Gonna GIVE It Away)," which was about an old chair--and not her butt, even though the her phrasing and the lyrics kept implying that it was.
Here's a gift of one of Gene Nelson's greatest dances of his life.

He was astonishing. And he danced with the complexity of Sondheim's lyrics (with a little help from Michael Bennett).
