Anyone who's going to be at Ravinia Friday evening, look for this sinister looking brunette skulking anxiously outside of the Martin Theatre.
(That is my best friend and I at Ravinia last year for Anyone Can Whistle. Jesus, why do I look pregnant? Boo for bad posture.)

Posted: 8/10/06 at 6:02pmI'm going to the show tomorrow and have pavillion seats (and I'm so completely excited). I've never been to Ravinia before (I know, I'm a horrible musical theatre fan) and was wondering if any of you pros have any advice about parking/when to arrive to get tickets to the talkback/etc. Thanks so much!

According to ravinia.org, if you park in the metra rail train station, the parking is free (its 10 bucks in the west lot of Ravinia).
The talk back is first come first serve, and the park opens at 5pm. So, Id get there as soon as possible.

I'm so excited to go tomorrow! I absolutely love Patti and Ravinia! I'm gonna be there fairly early in order to secure tix to the Sondheim talk. I've heard Patti won't be coming out of the stage door this time.
Nonetheless, I cannot wait!
-My fault, I fear.

I thought I was going Saturday, but my friend who bought the tickets called me about an hour ago and asked, "Is tomorrow the 11th? Because that's when our Gypsy tickets are for." So it seems I'll be there tomorrow
I'm a little stressed out about how to get out of work early, but the added bonus of Sondheim makes it a thousand times better. I'm so excited; I can't wait for tomorrow night.

Sensational news!!!!!!!
The one and only Loretta Swit will be attending GYPSY's Saturday evening performance. For those who are seeking her autograph, she will be standing in the West parking lot 45 minutes before the performance.

When you get off the expressway at Lake-Cook, just follow all the cars. In fact, traffic is usually so backed up on Lake-Cook that it is hard to exit the expressway.
If Ravinia means the Metra station in downtown Highland Park, yes, there will be plenty of parking, but you'll have to take a shuttle to the park.
Follow the cars. There will be people flagging you all the way in as to where to go.
Here's a link for the weather. While it may be cooler right now, the humidity is about 1000 percent. The forecast is better for the weekend.

Oh how I envy all of you. Well except Matt Schnieder. Though a big Patti supporter like me should be going instead of that little 10 year old twirp.
Anyway, I expect full reports of the show on the main board..
Would love to know if she's singing the high C like Merman, but I doubt anyone going has perfect pitch and can tell without a piano. So well if I ever hear a *cough* sample *cough* I'll have to check it on my piano. I would love Patti to be the only Rose to sing the high C like Merman. Though she might just keep it safe and sing the B like Bette and Bernadette.

ljay--have you ever heard "Merman: A Musical Autobigraphy"? She says:
"I held onto that high note like it was from TIFFANY'S--and the LAAAAAAAST ONE IN THE WORLD!"

matt schneider, I truly hope that your post isn't as asshole-esque as it looks.
Looking forward to tonight! I am prepared to pseudo-stalk Sondheim after his interview.

Posted: 8/11/06 at 12:27pmI have a confession, so this may not belong on this thread. I've never had any experience with Gypsy, except for seeing the movie once when I was thirteen. I'm very much looking forward to tonight since it'll obviously be a surprise for me.

At least Im not the only one who felt matt schneiders post annoying.
SorryGrateful, you have more experience than I do. Ive never seen the movie. Ive only listened to the cast recordings with Bernadette and Ethel.
ahhhh, I cant wait for tonight!!!!

ravinia.org: Tonight's pre-concert discussion with Gypsy lyricist Stephen Sondheim has been canceled for health reasons. We regret any inconvenience.
I hope he feels better! I wonder if he will still attend the concert.
