It's not shocking considering her age and background that she would harbor attitudes like this, and she wouldn't be the first person to be swept off her feet by the Antebellum myth, but she really should know better.

I have a feeling this isn't going to hurt her very much because the people who use her recipes aren't exactly unused to "conversational" racism, and I speak this as someone who was born and still lives in the South.

Deen has survived several controversies at Food network. This particular story is not new. This came out over a year ago. The only new part is that she is now supposedly owning up to it. Though the only original source to this new revelation is the Enquirer.

She also received much public outrage over her diabetes revelation. the Food Network facebook page was flooded for months with fans demanding Deen be fired for misleading fans by promoting unhealthy cooking while hiding her own diabetes.

Their facebook page is blowing up in much the same way today. Food Network's policy seems to be to just ignore the drama until it fades away. They've done the same with Ina Garten's drama over allegedly turning down a Make-A-Wish visit from a little boy with cancer. I think, as others have intimated, the outrage may be big. But the fan base is bigger. Food Network just needs to wait it out, knowing Paula's fan base will remain in place.
