I used to like her somewhat about 10 years ago when I first started watching the Food Network, but little by little she became a caricature of her former self. I read Namo's link that had the list of products she endorses. Really, Paula, is there really a need to have your name slapped across a pair of glasses? I think someone needs to be dunked in the skank tank.

Wait, wait, a few steps back. What the hell is that pile of vomit towering out of a Mrs. Smith's crust a page back?

My mother is a native southern cook who, yes, uses more butter than the Mayo Clinic would recommend in her recipes, but she would sooner serve gefilte fish for dessert than ever put that rancid-looking thing on our Thanksgiving table.

It does kind of look like the Trash Heap from Fraggle Rock, right?

Let's not forget (though it was already mentioned...but I like to remind!) that the announcement came after the roll-out of her son Bobby's show about 'healthy' versions of her recipes. What a remarkable coincidence!

And I never fail to gape in astonishment at people who get all upset over the 'Nanny State' in regards to providing nutritional information. I mean...it's not taxed differently. It's not illegal. They just give you the information about the stuff you're about to put in your body. How could you actually WANT to be ignorant about those things???

Paula Deen has unfortunately never learned how to be a business woman while she amassed her empire. Unlike someone like Dolly Parton who is notorious for being a micromanager about the use of her name and the quality associated with it, Paula will slap her name on anything that pays her.

She slaps her name on hams that come from pigs that are literally crushed in trash compactors as well as the line of cookware made in China that burst into flames when you put it on the stovetop. This along with any random condiment-most of which are the cheapest grade foodstuff I have ever seen and end up on the shelves at Big Lots. At least with the Barefoot Contessa, her food lines are top notch.

Paula never lost the penniless bumkin mentality and now she is just looking sad.

Actually, from what you've said, it sounds like it's less about her not learning to run a business and more about her not having a conscience.

Phyll-I think she has a conscience. The bad business part is she doesn't research-maybe out of ignorance. I think it is more of a hand to mouth mentality- hams, sure I like ham-I'll endorse. Cookware-great. I don't think she is a critical thinker.

Lord, there's a lot of juicy stuff out there when you just start looking!

Both Deen's parents died when she was barely out of high school, and she believed for years that she wouldn't live past 40. But except for taking blood pressure medication, she says, she's doing just fine - despite the fact that she doesn't really exercise or watch what she eats.
“Yesterday was so bad,” she says. “I started off the day with a sausage, egg and cheese biscuit from Hardee's. For lunch, I had a fabulous chocolate-stuffed, chocolate-covered eclair that I made for the show. And for dinner, I had fried fish and fried shrimp from Captain D's. Now is that horrible or what?”

Isn't that horrible, y'all? What about the moderation I've heard people ascribe to her?

I always thought that was Emeril Lagasse (his face is on more cans of sodium-laden crap than Chef Boyardee), but she might have him beat.
