This is a great thread. It makes me wish I had electronic copies of some pictures my grandma took back in the day. She was a total knock out, like many of your mothers.

This photo is a riot for a few reasons. See that man to my mother's right? That's my dad. Now, notice how he's looking at the other guy? That's my mother's high school sweetheart. I love how my dad is kind of snickering, like "I got her and you didn't you. Ha ha ha. So don't get any funny ideas."

The other amusing thing is that the "other guy" wound up being our family doctor...and, of course, he's smoking!!!



She sure went out with cute men, didn't she? They look like Sean Penn and Raul Esparza to me! (And check out Dad's skinny tie.)

Miss Penny, your mom is so stunning and truly gorgeous! Thanks so much for posting your wonderful pics! And I love your dad's tie. Very swanky! They were truly cool. I'm very late to this thread, since I just stepped off my very own Holland America cruise earlier today! I took my dad for a week-long vacation to Alaska. It was incredible!

I haven't had access to a scanner in the last few weeks, and my camera doesn't have a microlense, so these are probably bad. My apologies.

At 10, in 1962.


At 16 or so, in 1967, at the Mistletoe Dance with Alf Robardey. I have no idea what that's supposed to be in the background.


At 51, in Dallas, TX, a few days before she passed away. It sits on my desk.

I'm so sorry your mother passed away, Nit. It's very clear that you love her very much.

Besty, My parents sailed on the Holland America Line every year for decades. They occasionally took the SS France or something else, but they were extremely loyal to the Dutch line!

Thank you all for your comments about my mother. Her soul sparkled even brighter than her lovely features.

Nitsy---Your mom was a beauty! And I'm sorry as well to hear about her passing.

And thank you very much for the unwarrented compliment. Depending on the lighting, my weight and the weather... yeah, I can look good. I can also look like a pudgy piece of crap. So, I just take the "bitter with the better" as my grandma used to say.

Here's a couple of headshot photos of me... but they're 15 years old. Back when they told me I was "pretty."

this is me and my mom in nyc in 2005. we were taking a horse drawn carrige ride around central park.

her hair is a bit longer now though.




this is my mom and dad at sequoias, and me and my brother at the same resturaunt... who do you think looks like who? :)

actually, she does wear contacts, but only to correct her vision. they dont change the color at all. and yes her eyes rock. :)

everyone in my family has bad eyes... my brother and mom wear contacts sometimes, glasses other times, and my dad and i wear glasses.


what's funny is i look at that picture of my brother and hardly recognize him! he's lost about 20 pounds since then, grew his hair longer (he has amazing curls) and only shaves when his girlfriend tells him to lol
