Please STOP! (pet peeves that drive me crazy!)

Store clerks who lick their fingers (to separate the bag) then touch your merchandise with those same licked fingers. People who haven't learned the fine point of using stairs. When using stairs, going up stays to the right, going down to the left. (Or visa versa) People who come to a halt at the top of a escalator. When standing outside of a store awaiting its morning opening, people who walk past you and try and open the door. When walking within a crowd, people who just stop in their tracks to take a call. People who flick their nasty cigarette ashes outside of their car, so then the ashes end up on your car. People who extend their seat back all the way on an airplane, not caring who is sitting behind them.

"Jane2. I believe the Glenbuck Laird is British."

Yeah, but still. EVERYONE in the UK takes milk in their tea? I never would in mine.

Not done the poll Jane but I would say around 99.9% of people take tea with milk here.

Lemon with tea. As in a squeeze of fresh lemon? New one on me that. Funnily I work with many Czech people less than 50% of this population take milk with tea.

Eww. I work in retail and I would never do this. The bags may stick sometimes, but I still do fine without having to lick my fingers.

I hate it when people ask me if my register is open when I'm standing right there with the light on. It's like "No, I'm just standing here to piss you off if the other lines are crowded." I also hate it when I turn out my light because I'm going to go on a break or are preparing to leave and then people keep coming up because they see me there checking out what was supposed to be my last customer.

I do this. I feel like I have to contribute to the door holding somehow, give the door holder the option to let me take over. It's a sickness.

I do it but I don't think it's so silly. Once I grab the door, you can let go. I still say thank you, of course.

Sooooooo many people walk through a held door and don't say anything. So rude! No shade, but young women seem to be the worst offender, in my experience.

When that happens to me, I generally say to the person in a nice loud and clear voice "You're welcome"

I do it too. Especially in my supermarket, which is too small for two people with baskets in the aisle at the same time. When I see someone coming, I'll back up out of the aisle to let them pass first. If they don't say thank you, I practically yell "you're welcome."

Here we go--Asians are the worst offenders of the 'barge straight through' offence.

Just back from Bangkok and if I was[were?] polite as I was in the beginning--I would still be standing on Silom Road waiting my turn to cross,

The skytrain is the best though--there are painted footprints where you are supposed to stand and wait--and the people do------see how I avoided being racist [tourists?].

Oh and I never reply when ANYONE asks me' hows your day been'--ESPECIALLY when asked when I walk into my gym at 5AM !!

" Interesting. This must be a culture thing as Asian people are most likely to knock me over going into subway. I was in Rome over the summer and the tour guide actually said to us in Vatican Museum to not worry about being polite to the Japanese Tourists as they will always rush in front of you and you will never be able to get a good view or picture of anything. Probably because Japan is so crowded. They have officials who actually stuff people in the subway with sticks.

I think it's funny when non-thankers to whom I've said "You're welcome" whirl around and go, "I SAID THANK YOU!"

We both know it's not true, but I always say, "That's why I said you're welcome."

I say it, too, but I say it very politely. I used to say it the loud, aggressive way, but when you get aggressive with people, even if they’re in the wrong, their emotional reaction is, “Well, fu<k you, too, man,” -- like Reg's people who shout back -- and your point doesn’t register.

But if you say, “Oh, you’re welcome,” really nicely, exactly as though they’d actually said, “Thank you,” and you’re just responding to them, it’s great. It really, really throws people, and I think they get the message.

You're right, and I never say it hostilely. But it's a fairly standard thing, in New York anyway: The wronger you are, the angrier you get.

Well, I think if I say it nicely, they think that I probably either heard or assumed that they said thank you, and they're off the hook. When I say it with a little tone of reproachment, they know they were rude. I don't care what their reaction is, I'm not trying to make nice with them.

Sometimes, for variety, I will say to my wife but loud enough for the other person to hear "I love being a doorman".

When handed my money change and the shop assistant doesn't look at you and they expect your hand to find theirs'-and tells you to have a nice day--fcvk off !

Wait staff who put your order down, again without looking at you and tells you to 'ENJOY' as they walk away--fcvk off.

You can tell I'm feeling FABULOUS this morning---why am I perfect and everyone else needs my foot up their arse?? now THAT'S cause for another thread !

My pet peeve may be only mine because this is a universal habit and no one seems to mind. Here it is-

Every single time you come across a human being, or several of them, whether it's in a store, bank, or ?anywhere, you are asked "how are you doing today?" and are expected to answer "doing' good, how are you doing?"

Well, I don't feel like having to tell every single stranger how I'm doing, nor do I care how they're doing. How do I handle this problem? Simple - I don't answer.
