Please STOP! (pet peeves that drive me crazy!)

A variant of the post w people stopping to text at the top of stairs. Stopping at the top of escalators. I just flew home and the number of nit wits who stopped to look around while the rest of us behind WHO CAN'T STOP cos we are on a moving staircase get jammed up is nearly criminal. SO many people bumping and nearly falling. If u need to get your bearings take a step to the side for crying out loud.

"It got worse from there. Now a bit animated, I decided to very conspicuously pick up their garbage and place it in the garbage can. It got worse from there."

You picked up their cigarette butts from the gutter. SMH

What about the people who act like the line to get onto the plane is the line for free tickets to Cher's final farewell concert? I get that people want overhead space for their bags but, goodness. Take a chill pill. I sit down until the plane is almost totally boarded. We are all going to the same place and WE ALL HAVE ASSIGNED SEATS. No need to push and shove your way to the front. I'd rather not spend an extra 15 minutes on the plane waiting anyway. I also always see people who try to get into an earlier group and get sent away by the person scanning tickets because their group number hasn't been called yet. It always baffles and amuses me.

I'm a smoker, I usually flick the lit end onto the street and put the filter in the garbage or in my pocket. What alternatives did these people have? I get where you're coming from , but what you did was a little loony. :)

They could stop smoking on the street? It's so disgusting to get stuck behind a smoker on a busy sidewalk and it's blowing into your face.

How about when someone throws gum on the street or let's their dog do it's business there? Either way you wind up stepping in it.

I don't think they make gum sticky anymore. I never get it stuck to the bottom of my shoe and can't remember the last time I did.

Doggy doo is definitely still sticky and with today's fashionable lug soles that's just a nightmare.

Agree with the airport line. I did wait at my gates for a bit. Only because I had nothing else to do. But, I never rushed to be 1st in line. Especially since they were calling by sections.

I guess working in retail has definitely been an eye opener for customer service. Like I have been helping customers a couple of times and then you get the 1 who thinks they are so much more important and expects you to drop what you are doing to help them. I don't mind helping, it's just nicer if people were more patient and waited their turn. And also against popular belief, we don't just pull rules out of our asses to piss you off. If we tell you something, it's what we know. And the times I do happen to be wrong, I do apologize. I have no secret agenda. It just amazes me how a lot of rudeness is unjustified.

Since we are talking customer service and retail, here is another pet peeve of mine. Clerks who give service to the person over the phone instead of the person in front of them. When I worked retail, we were taught you take care of the person in front of you, because that was a for sure sale. The person on the phone may never come into the store. Also clerks who are unable to determine correct change back after they type the amount into the register. For example, my sale is $16.47. I first hand them a $20 which they key in. Then I find the .47 change. They cannot determine on their own that the change would be $4. Many have told me that would make their register short. Counting back money (from the change to the bills) is a lost art. I could do that when I worked in my teens.

In the past, I would never rush to board a plane. In fact, I preferred to hold off as long as possible to avoid having to sit there while everyone boarding would bump into me. However, twice it happened that there was no room in the overhead baggage compartments for my bag, and it had to be checked. Now I DO try to board as soon as possible.

Especially when people put their bag in the space where yours should go. I have had people from several rows away place their bags in my row's allotted space.

Artman, All the time! If you watch, people try to put their bags in the very first overhead space, no matter where they sit.

I've been on numerous flights where the cabin crew say you shouldn't worry about having your bag in the bin right above you, especially now that so many people are pushing the limits on the carry on size to avoid checked bag fees. The airlines have created this issue on their own.

I don't mind having my bag gate-checked, if need be. First off, you don't have to pay a ridiculous fee. Also, if your bag is gate-checked, nine times out of 10 it is waiting at the gate, so you don't have to deal with the baggage carousel. What is the downside? You don't really need your suitcase with you on the plane; if there is something in your suitcase you can't live without, you can remove it.

This pisses me off, too. It happened to me recently: I stood at a register for 10 minutes while the clerk talked to a customer on the phone, only barely acknowledging me. In the end, I walked out in frustration and she lost out on a pretty nice commission (it was a high-end men's store here in Manhattan).

Larry, In theory the gate check is a great idea. However, on more than one occasion I had to wait up to fifteen/twenty minutes for crew to bring up the bags. On one occasion, my bag was left at the gate and never placed on the plane. So for me, it puts me at ease to know my suitcase should be right above my seat. Especially, on flights to a vacation. I don't care too much what happens to it on my return and will usually check it in. If the airline loses it (and they have) then a free trip for me.

The new telemarketing robo calls that start out... "Hello?... Hello? Can you hear me?... "Oh good. Congratulations you have been chosen for....". I have fallen for this twice.

I like when you tell them not to call anymore and they ignore you

Another good one is when you pick up and you get a dial tone. Wait a minute - a telemarketer that hangs up on itself. I think I am on to something here

If i get a live telemarketer and I am feeling playful, I ask them what they are wearing. When they ask why, I tell them the interupted me when I was close and want to get that feeling back. That usually gets them upset and they yell at me. My reply.... "You called me, I didn't call you.". I had one male telemarketer that kept calling me back asking for the peckerwood at this number that would give him a BJ. I responded with "I would but I require more then 2.5 inches erect, therefore you aren't qualified. You had better continue trying to sell mortgages". Never heard from that company again!

When a telephone customer service rep hasn't helped whatsoever then asks at the end of the call "Is there anything else I can help you with?."

My other peeve are those recorded customer service directories....press 1 for orders, press 2 to upgrade....press 12b but only when the moon is full and a rep may be with you shortly but you're better off going to the website. And then after I have lapsed into a coma waiting, another recording comes on asking if I'd be willing to take a survey after the call. ??
