PLEASE STOP....to all the news reporters, television commentators and reality show judges

"I have to say..."

I know! I am listening to what you are saying. I am tired of hearing you trying to emphasize what you are going to say before you say it anyway!

Please STOP! (pet peeves that drive me crazy!)

Earlier today I returned from a trip to the Carolinas. While visiting numerous relatives and retail outlets down there, I was bombarded with a phrase that grates on my nerves like no other. Folks down there still have a tendency to exclaim that someone had better do something or avoid doing it if they know what's good for them. I love them dearly but they are a bit preachy for my liking these days. And since most are dyed-in-the-wool evangelical Christians, the notion of an individual's free will is an absolutely foreign concept despite the prominence of the Free Will Baptist denomination in the area.

Insane and arrogant cyclists who think the rules of the road are for other people, especially red lights. Insane and arrogant cyclists who go around at night-time with no illumination whatsoever. Do you want to be killed?

People who stand and talk in doorways. Move out of the way, cretins.

Folks who carry on cell phone conversations at the top of their voices in crowded spaces. I detected that cellphone yapping was much more prominent at the gates of Raleigh-Durham airport than at Washington National where most travelers texted.

Anyone who comes to a dead stop at the top of the subway stairs in order to make a phone call, or send a text.

Simply scream MOVE! and push them to one side. Or down the stairs. Your call.

My peeve: Waitrons who sneeze or cough in to their hands in front of you, and then go right on serving food without washing first. I saw it twice this past weekend at a well-known restaurant in midtown. Thank God neither plate was mine.

Wow, I didn't realize that it's been 60 years since 1982. I've been seriously misrepresenting my age if that's the case.

Have to agree with Jay re: cyclists. If you expect other people to follow the rules, then follow the rules yourself.

People who say "no worries" instead of "you're welcome" when I say "thank you." Um...I wasn't worried.

Something I'm starting to see more often these days: people watching videos/listening to music without headphones in public spaces (restaurants, public transport, etc).

"You travel alone because other people are only there to remind you how much that hook hurts that we all bit down on. Wait for that one day we can bite free and get back out there in space where we belong, sail back over water, over skies, into space, the hook finally out of our mouths and we wander back out there in space spawning to other planets never to return hurrah to earth and we'll look back and can't even see these lives here anymore. Only the taste of blood to remind us we ever existed. The earth is small. We're gone. We're dead. We're safe." -John Guare, Landscape of the Body

Bicyclists are the worse, never go the right way and 99% don't stop for lights. Texters are horrible on the subway steps . I say I can cure hunger and homelessness in NYC by developing an app that deducts $10 from a person's account texting going up the stairs to City Harvest and $10 going down to the Coalition for the Homeless.

Theater wise it's people that read the posted reviews before the show begins...

People who play music through the external speaker on their phone on the train.

People who think it's a good idea to stand in the middle of a busy walkway and have a discussion.

I second "Anyhoo." *cringe*

Anyone who pronounces Croissant with the "w" sound, but doesn't do it with any other French words.

" My PP is a little bit related. I can not take the "On Tonights Newscast" commercials during TV Shows that promise Your child is in danger, Your drive to work or school is in danger, tomorrows weather is dangerous, Sex is dangerous, What you eat is danger. I refuse to watch.

Kind of reminds me of a very old George Carlin bit. ICBM'S falling out of the sky, etc etc - details @ 11. This always cracks me up.

Why do people ask if you want milk in your tea? Everyone has milk, why don't people just assume you have milk and if you don't just say, no milk please.

People who say PIN number - PIN stands for Personal Identification Number
Saying PIN Number you are calling it a Personal Identification Number Number.

People who refer to "the Hoi Polloi". 'Hoi' means 'The' ...

Usually it's "milk or lemon?" but has been shortened to "do you take milk?"

Many people prefer lemon. Automatically putting milk in tea would be insulting as it'd curdle with lemon.
