I hate it when smokers toss their ashes and cigarette butts on the ground rather than disposing of them properly. I believe people should be able to decide what to put into their bodies, but it's their responsibility to dispose of their garbage properly.
Obviously this is a big problem on the road. How on earth could anyone think it's acceptable to toss their burning garbage into the path of other people's gasoline-powered vehicles? If you have an ashtray, use it. If it's full, empty it. If you don't have one in your car, then you shouldn't be smoking in it.
I also experienced this problem outside of the Jacobs Theatre a couple of years ago. I was actually waiting to go into the Golden to see Vanya... when I spotted a group of three or four ushers from the Jacobs tossing their ashes and butts into the gutter. I kindly - I swear I was very polite! - asked them to dispose of their garbage properly. They reacted as if I had just spat on them or something, and said that it's someone else's job to come and clean the gutter every day.
It got worse from there. Now a bit animated, I decided to very conspicuously pick up their garbage and place it in the garbage can. They started yelling that I was insane and probably dangerous - all because I asked them to throw away their trash and then did it for them when they refused. We continued to discuss the relevant issues for a few minutes before a security guy came out and said I was harassing his co-workers, which was not at all true. He was a little guy, getting all up in my face; it was quite comical. Soon enough they all went back inside.
Anyhow, yes, this is something that bothers me a lot. :)
