So sick of friends ( On both sides) that don't know what they are talking about but keep re sharing the trendy "whatever's". Just venting.

You think they're sharing things they aren't understanding?

Yes. I think they pick and choose whatever info is convenient for them . If they were really impassioned about something why don't they get off their asses and do something about it? How many Bernie Sanders posts mush they share? How many dog rescue videos must I be subjected to.

So sorry. I know it is a unclear vent. But my vent is honest.

I was off of Facebook for two years, and only recently rejoined, and yeah... it was nicer not being on it.

Ironically, I had to rejoin since I was up for a job at Facebook. But then I didn't get the job, but since I reactivated my account, everyone was happy I was back, so hard to be like, I'm outta here again! heh

I have unfollowed so many people, and I have my sharing settings divided into groups, so that I only share most of my posts with a drastically whittled down group. It has made my Facebook experience a lot more pleasant.

"I was off of Facebook for two years, and only recently rejoined, and yeah... it was nicer not being on it."

Dat right there. A few of you will recall that I finally joined earlier this year. While it was neat for a minute to reconnect with childhood friends, the initial experience reminded quickly of what I didn't like about most of them decades ago.

Since I grew up in a small town in the Bible belt, there is no limit to the amount of daily proselytizing among them. In a town of less than 4,000 people, I'd hazard a guess that 5% are ordained evangelical Christian ministers. Worse still, a few PM me with gossip about the aberrant behavior of the other towns-folks' kids or tips on on who's having an extramarital affair (except them of course). I tolerate them only because I've known some of them for at least 50 yrs now.

I have to do this. I am also unfollowing a few people that I can't take on a constant basis.

Fact: on Facebook, it's not true until you see a Minion Memo about it.

I think the way FB brings out the real person who is in there is a good thing. There's a lot of family I'm not friends with.

Facebook is interesting. There are a lot of things I did not know about people, but learned based on what they post. Sadly, a lot of it is not good. And it has made me realize how many people are just really acquaintances now versus real friends. Basically there is a lot of the adult voice from the Peanuts cartoons in my head when reading some stuff.

I sincerely don't mean to offend any female posters on here but within my FB circle there are no beefs between the men. But, the women are the bitchiest lot I've ever come across. Earlier today, two ladies whom I've known practically all my life got into an argument over a recipe with one ending it by instructing the other to shut the f*ck up in Jesus' name. I have observed that there's a lot of oneupswomanship over recipes and home remedies. And some of those ladies are now competing against their daughters for time & attention from the same guys these days. You wouldn't believe some of the selfies a few of those saintly ladies (and their adult daughters) have sent me on q.t.

That's definitely just whatever you see. I see a lot of religious stuff because I was involved in my parent's church in high school, so I know all of those people. Now I am not anything. I think some stuff depends on the person too. Like my college roommate posts the exact same post almost every day about her girlfriend and I want to vomit. Either she is doing it to attempt to make people jealous or she just needs to remind everyone that she is dating someone. Not really sure which it is. It also could be both.

I'm totally stealing that. That line has a headband's name all over it.

Gee, I've got to get more colorful FB friends!

I do enact the "stop following" option. Often on my young former students that post **** that I just don't need to know about. I've also recently begun to get rid of the overly religious, constantly whining, and those that are living vicariously through their kids.

If we're not having fun, then why are we doing it? These are DISCUSSION boards, not mutual admiration boards. Discussion only occurs when we are willing to hear what others are thinking, regardless of whether it is alignment to our own thoughts.

DMama, I get a lot of friend requests from former students and I write the same thing to each one: "I'm glad to hear you are well and I'll be happy to accept your friend request, but you should know I use FB primarily to follow my grandchildren. You will not be reading in-depth discussions of Aristotle and Brecht on my page, but you will know everything there is to know about little Emma's love of Disney princesses. If you still want to friend me on that basis, please send another request. If not, I will totally understand."

That pretty much thins the herd.

There are some on my friends list (including my brother) that for some reason have facebook confused with a diary or on-line journal. I got so sick and tired of firing up one of my devices in the morning and logging on only to find a long winded diatribe along the lines of "whoa is me". No one wants to read that kind of stuff when all they want to do is unwind, relax and casually read or post.

This meme is on point and I've used it in situations like that:

I have one friend who posts a new status about every let's say, hour. Maybe more often. It seems to me she posts every thought she has. I'm not annoyed because I just don't click on them, but I think it's sad that she uses fb to talk to instead of a friend or two.

There's not much of a public sphere anymore. I don't think there's anything inherently wrong with people posting whatever they want on Facebook, using it in whichever way suits their personal needs.

If I don't want to see the stupidity of a relative who forwards easily researchable and debunkable facts about Obama, I can take her out of my feed. No harm no fowl.
