I thought the conclusion of season 2 was very strong and I do not think there needed to be a season 3 for it feels a little anticlimactic. But that being said, Billy singing in church was worth the extension.

The episode is the definition of melodramatic but we got Thelma, Aunt Viv and Sandra in the same room at the same table so that’s all I need.

I know some felt this was a very emotional episode, but I remained dry-eyed (and as someone who lived - and lost friends - through the AIDS epidemic, I’m a ripe demographic. I sobbed through both Falsettos and The Inheritance 2x) throughout the episode.

Still, I didn’t hate it. I think the criticisms above are valid. There were some moments that felt implausible either because of the way it was scripted or the way it was directed or just the situation itself. Still, I didn’t hate the episode. And yes, Porter’s church performance was the highlight of the episode even if it seemed unlikely that such a fully formed performance in sync with the musicians would have happened in a church service either spontaneously or with such short notice, but then again as a child I attended an uptight, structured almost entirely white Presbyterian church. Lol.

I do feel the episodes this season have ranged from very good (even in this episode there were other lovely moments like the moment with Jackée at the diner at the end) to excellent. That’s more than can be said of the first two seasons (I’m especially looking at you, Season Two, where the writing ranged from subpar to great).

I am glad we got Season 3. For a show that sometimes didn’t know how to bottle its promise and ideas into fully formed scripts, the characters deserved a strong ending. So far, I feel like they’re delivering on that. Three episodes left! As RuPaul would say, “And don’t f**k it up!”.

For me, the episode had its moments. Yep, my eyes were full to the brim when he sang in Church. I could also identify with some of what his character went through as a child.

I agree it was very melodramatic. I found myself just a little annoyed that his backstory got a solid hour (With short "bookends" while Elektra's was incorporated into the Trunk episode and Blanca's were flashbacks also (If I remember correctly). They pulled out the stops for this episode all the way down to the music they chose. It had submission for Emmy nomination written all over it. I hope the last 3 episodes now focus on the rest of the characters with a good finale that ties all of their stories up.

I will say it was nice seeing the ladies from the old sitcoms in this episode. And also seeing Norm.

I agree that the trajectory of Billy’s character this season has been over the top. Some shows are only good for so long. This season at times has gone off the rails.

Murphy is running Pray into the ground this season. I found the last episode insufferable. It was OTT awards bait and IMHO it failed on all levels. The dialogue was bad after school special. The cameos by Thelma, Viv and Sandra were very nice. The actresses gave the episode needed grounding. It was overindulgent. Again why introduce all these new characters when the show is wrapping up? Felt like a total waste.

I didn't want to seem too harsh as I was not sure how my opinion would be received. But Bettyboy72, you pretty much hit the nail on the head. It almost feels like the show has become the Pray Tell/Porter show. He is getting the most out of this show and that annoys me since this show was to be a groundbreaking show featuring trans actors. But it has slowly starting leaning towards Pray Tell. And even with that happening, I feel it is MJ that carries the show as the real central character. I enjoy the show the most when it centers on the characters outside of Pray Tell. Just my random thoughts.

Yes.George M. Cohan always said leave them wanting more.....but some people do not know when to stop.

I think it would be interesting for the show to continue to skip ahead. Letting the characters who survive: age and evolve.

I have an odd feeling they are setting up for Pray Tell's death. I hope it is not the final thing to happen. If it does, I hope it is either in the next to last episode or at the beginning of the final episode.

I agree uncageg. From day one, for me, MJ has been the heart of the show. Her performance has been so moving and an anchor since the beginning. I also feel Dominque has deepened in her acting skills and is a true presence. Her depth, warmth and style supersedes her acting style and she has won viewers over. That was no easy feat. A testament to her talent. I remember watching the first episode and cringing at her line readings. However, she won viewers over. She’s brilliant. She proved me wrong.

And how on Gods green earth is Nurse Judy getting more screen time than Angel and Papi. Angel has become a drugged up also ran. She is one of the most compelling characters on TV.

During last nights episode I was rolling my eyes. All these guest stars were getting these long tear feared monologues!! WHY? I don’t know these people! Why do I give a @&$% about their inner worlds? Focus on the damn leads. And those older actresses deserved better wigs. You know they had the budget.

As Jordan said, Murphy is running true to form. He will crash and burn this one good. Three episodes left. Let’s hope Pray takes a seat for the rest.

Just catching up with this show. I loved the character of Damon, I was so sad to hear that Ryan Jamaal Swain's sister had been shot to death in Birmingham, Alabama. She was only 24. Tragic.

Wonderful performances, but I think they have told their stories and I think 3 seasons is perfect. And of course Billy Porter has more screen time, he won a goddamn Emmy award for this show and he's the biggest name on the show.

Something that I have noticed is that they have been using the term "I am going to speak my truth" or "Speak my truth". I asked my friends, in the gay black community, if they remember us using that term back then and they all said no.(I don't remember using it either) It is more of a current term/phrase. It just kind of takes me out of it when they say it. I guess they are trying to appeal to a younger audience that uses the term. But it just feels out of place in the time the show is set in especially since it is a term that has been used starting in recent years.

My main issue with Pose has always been its narrative structure and timing. While I loved season 2, it felt like it should have been season 3. I feel like they set themselves up for failure with the multiple time jumps, and they are playing catch up now to not much success.

Yeah, that was all a bit over the top but I have just decided to roll with the show now. I flashed back to the first episode where they broke into the store to steal dresses for a ball. That also was a bit over the top. They could have brought it down a few notches and kept it more real. Elektra has a good business. She could have helped them have a nicer wedding and bought the dress. The bachelorette party could have been held in the ballroom with strippers. There are only 3 episodes left and I hope they have a good finale planned. I am also wondering if Ryan Jamal Swain may make a surprise appearance in the final episode since filming was suspended and didn't wrap until 2 months ago. I know he was written out of the series because of his sister's death in July but wondering is the suspended filming enabled him to return for the finale. That would be nice.

Just some immediate random thoughts.

I think Pray could have passed away at the end of the episode where he went home. Dressed in white and seeing his younger self on the steps while riding the bus. Everyone on the bus could have been dressed in white.

Ha! However, to be fair the last 10 minutes of that final "Roseanne" ep were brilliant and some of the best TV ever. But the whole "everyone's rich now and all our problems are solved" is so lazy it could only happen on a Murphy TV show.

And gurl. GURL. YOU REDID BLANCA'S APARTMENT BUT COULDN'T PAY SOMEONE TO COME IN AND PATCH THE WALLS AND PAINT?!
