I totally disagree. Christian is an extremely talented designer and he needs to learn from his mistakes. Ricky and Kevin are barely interesting designers. They did the right thing by letting the better designer stay on and continue to grow (he can only benefit from this harsh lesson). I'm glad they didn't penalize him for one bad dress made for an extremely difficult client (how would you feel if someone took the pencil from you and started drawing their own thing?! Clearly the girl had other intentions).
Actually, I think Christian would have had a valid case to make. She is not the contestant, he is.
Chris doesn't move me and I'm actually sort of bitter about the fact that he got voted off and then they let him back on the show. That's just incredibly unfair. They should've just given everyone immunity for that week.
For me, both Ricky and Kevin were ready to go. Neither one has been remarkable.
They'd never let Christian go yet. He's been outstanding all season at the age of what, 21, and I think the judges recognize that. It would be a shame to eliminate him because of one less than perfect dress.
I think my favorite tonight was Kit's mosaic.
Well, the rules of the game are that you win or lose for the competition being played that night. Not for the entire body of work...
I think Christian was the one who lost this competition.
(But, yes, I think he's a VERY talented designer... and he's been an interesting character to have on the show.)
"Well, the rules of the game are that you win or lose for the competition being played that night. Not for the entire body of work.."
I'm not sure where that rule is written, but it certainly isn't the way these shows are played out. What a travesty that would be to eliminate an extremely talented person who could really go far, given the opportunity, because one night his creation was poor. No artist creates a masterpiece each time.
Not giving credit for past performances in any field is kind of short sighted and unfair, in my opinion.
Oh, ronin, I agree with you, we were posting at the same time!
Great minds :)
It took me a while to warm up to Christian but I liked seeing his human side tonight. He had a kind of Hillary moment. Maybe he'll tone it down from here on out.
I hope he makes it to fashion week with Rami and the curly haired chick. We'd see a dynamic show and they'd all be sufficiently scared of one another to create some ace outfits. I always feel like every fashion week there's a person or two who isn't really that great.
"It took me a while to warm up to Christian"
Me too, and the hair didn't help, lol!
But I identified with him tonight, for the first time. He's the designer, not the kid, and she was overbearing. "You know you love me". oy vey. It had to be so frustrating for him. Rami is also an excellent designer who didn't shine tonight. He definitely has a style, but so do most designers.

I dislike these design for a "normal" person challenges. If the designer gives the client what she wants, he/she can be penalised. If the designer goes against the client's wishes, he/she will be penalised. How do you tell a pushy client, no!?
Kevin deserved to go because the dress was unfinished. He was warned about it and he did nothing. Christian started off by blaming the girl which was a no-no, but I don't think that dress was that bad. I actually liked Ricky's dress. The girl and her mother really liked it, and that's what counts. If I were the young girl, and the judges were criticising a dress I approved of and would wear, I'd start mouthing off.
On a superficial note, Rami is so incredibly sexy. Was I the only one cursing the invention of towels?

I want Rami to be my prom date.
Addy - if that rule was followed, Ricky would've been long gone.
And as much as I can't stand Christian, I did feel bad for him today.

I can't stand Christian, but I did have some pity for him last night. That girl wanted a hideous dress and Christian seems to young and inexperienced in the ways of life to have been able to either steer her in a different direction or put his foot down and tell her that her ideas were not going to work.
I'm wondering why Jillian's dress didn't rank in the top two. Admittedly, I don't know from prom gowns, but I thought her design was elegant, the material flowed, it was age appropriate and well executed. Sweet Pea's dress was beautiful also. I think it should have been Jillian and sweet Pea as the top two. I just thought Victoria's dress lacked something. Really nice but not what I would have considered a prom dress.
The one thing Christian had that the others didn't was not just a difficult client...but one that was playing to the camera. She knew where she was and she knew what she was doing. I don't blame her. If I was 17 and had that opportunity, hell YES I would have done the same thing. The biggest mistake he made was trying to please her too much. He needed to assess what she was doing and why and then move forward and make the gown he knew she would look best in.
But I still don't think it was the worst dress last night. Kevin's was really terrible. Ill-fitting, unflattering, unfinished. But here's the key to his loss (at least in my opinion). He didn't know it was terrible. Christian knew his was a garment that didn't really work. Kevin didn't seem to appreciate just how wrong his garment was for his client. Since it came down to between those two, Kevin was rightly (in my opinion) sent home.
HOWEVER, it should not have come down to those two. It should have come down to Kevin and the Puerto Rican Norma Shearer. Good LORD that dress was terrible. Badly fitted, badly made...and I can't even begin to deal with that non-color. She looked like a naked Skipper doll. AWFUL!
What I found interesting though was that the two winners, Sweetpea and Victorya, both completely changed their clients original concept (both in style and in color) and got their client to accept, and LOVE, the new dress. I hope Christian was paying attention.

Aw. Thanks to Tylenol PM, I fell asleep halfway through but don't mind the spoilers. I look forward to watching it tonight. How did Chris March's dress turn out? I remember he purchased green and red fabric, saying something about a poinsetta!
I REALLY liked Chris' dress! It was flowy and pretty and feminine and sophisticated without being 'old.' It, along with Sweet P's, was my favorite. I liked Victorya's, for the most part. But it was just a little too 'cute' for me.
Chris's last two designs have been at the top of my favorites list for the season. I just loved Mom's expression when he asked if they knew the model in his portfolio was him. Funny and COOL!
I loved Chris's last night also. I'm happy to see that he can break loose from his retro glam style. My favorites last night were Jillian, Kit, and Chris.
And, boy, can that Mary design a fabu costume.
I saw CHRISTMAS WITH THE CRAWFORDS years ago (2002 mabye?) and it was designed by Ms. March. Fun camp with astounding costumes and wigs. Just magnificent.
Off topic, but what ever happened to PROJECT: JAY? It ran for, I think, one episode right after the first PW and then mysteriously vanished. Anyone know what gives? I know Jay had problems working for Banana Republic and eventually dumped them.

I think Project Jay was just a one-time special.
Once I saw it was down to Kevin and Christian, I knew it was over for Kevin, as Christian "makes for better TV." But as others are saying, it should have come down to the Waterworks Kid and Kevin, with Ricky going home as he consistently designs and constructs poorly, but apparently someone thinks his tears make good TV too.
I will so rejoice unto the Lord when Ricky is given the boot. I'm sure we'll see some real tears then.
NOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!
sniff...I'll miss Kevin's hairy chest and pretty eyes...I know, I know...it's not the point of the show...but I liked him too. He seemed sweet. Notice how Ram me was shirtless this week? Was I right? I said that either he or Kevin will be the "just woke up" shirtless shot every week.
So, no more bias, I REALLY hated Ricky's maxipad costume of a dress. That girl looked ridiculous. When I saw that belt of hannukah gelt in mesh?! OY! He stinks, and my grandfather used to wear his caps that way too...like a birdcage. I think it looks retarded...oh, that's personal...he is a crappy designer who needs to go.
I wonder how the other contestants would've handled Christian's nightmare.
I love Sweet P. I thought she should have won as well..her dress was totally glam. I also really liked Kit's and thought she should have been in the top.
I love Sweet P telling the girls. "I went to Catholic school. Girls, this is you in 30 years." Oh and the prom pictures were incredible. Kevin's Jersey boy hair..ha.
Christian's dress was so much worse than Kevin's, but like the above poster said, as soon as Ricky was safe, and we knew Rami had immunity, I knew it was over for Kevin. Christian basically announcing he'd be eliminated was a sure sign that he was safe.
I didn't love Kevin's dress, but it was leagues above Ricky and Christian's.
I think Kevin's a good designer, but he hasn't grown any. He always plays it safe. I think that was a mistake in the casting.
Raimi made the same dress he made in the first episode. Gorgeous, but he needs to be a little more diverse in his designs.
I'm glad Christian stayed. I think he's great.
