Just saw on the news, the decisions will be announced tomorrow.

My heart is pounding. I doubt I'll get much sleep tonight.

Based on how divided down the party line the Voting Rights Act decision was, I am concerned.

I don't think anyone should expect a sweeping 'gay marriage for all' kind of decision tomorrow, though I am expecting DOMA to be struck down. How on EARTH can anyone find that constitutional????

I was nervous before today, now I'm just depressed.

Psyching myself up for either no ruling based on standing or a narrow loss.

I need to prepare myself mentally for this.

Honestly, I'd be surprised if they rule at all and not simply lob it back to the states. Even Illinois put their vote on hold and it's a blue state.

Do we really think Kennedy is going to let DOMA stand? I think Roberts might even join in on that.

As for Prop 8, I don't know. I imagine no ruling on standing may be a good guess.

With it being San Francisco's PRIDE weekend, I really hope things go well.

It'll be a **** show either way. Good thing I'm working Saturday night and Sunday morning.

Well that may not even be in play here. What's really frightening is how little the general public understands all of this and sadly the majority of gay people.

Kennedy looks at this as a state's right issue. It could very well be dismissed. And I'll tell you this much, there may be a few days of bitching and heartache by our ignorant masses and allies, but it's not going to start a movement.

Outside of an executive order which Obama would probably end up issue if this doesn't go "our way," it's going to be another messy decade of nonsense.

Again it's a real damn shame people in this country are so ignorant on the subject. Most have no clue what federal recognition of marriage provides nor the fact that all our state marriages can be revoked at any time.

The law and the Constitution mean absolutely nothing. It's all about bigotry, folks. Hate will overthrow even the most intelligent reasoned arguments.

I hope it doesn't turn out that way, I really do, but I'm not kidding myself about the chances with the likes of Alito, Scalia, Thomas and Roberts involved.

Also, the fact that it's not clear cut or obvious to ANY OF US what might happen is some scary ****. With all the analysis and information available today, it's like we're still waiting to see if Santa is going to bring us that new bike, or it's just socks.

What executive order could be issued in regards to DOMA?

I think Kennedy will vote with the 'liberal' wing to strike down DOMA. I think it would be entirely consistent with his majority opinions in Romer v. Evans and Lawrence v. Texas. But I'm preparing to be disappointed.

I ask this in all honesty, you care more about Prop 8 than DOMA?

I understand the emotions involved...I was furious when Prop 8 passed. But DOMA is insidious and so profoundly unconstitutional...and it affects things like immigration rights for bi-national couples, Social Security benefits, etc. I think it's far more important.

I have a performance tomorrow at 10, and won't be able to check until around 11:30 or so. It's going to be so difficult to concentrate when I know the ruling will have been handed down. As much as I want a positive ruling, I'm so nervous that the worst will happen.

I am a firm believer in serendipity- all the random pieces coming together in one wonderful moment, when suddenly you see what their purpose was all along.

No no no no no. Pleeeeeease don't get me wrong. I have no doubt that DOMA will be struck down. But with Prop 8, if that's upheld then what they're saying is that states can freely vote on peoples rights. And if that's the case, I want the straight community to know what that feels like.

I get that. Totally. I've just always felt that the case against Prop 8 was (just as Prop 8 itself) is based on very strong emotions. The fact is, enough signatures were gathered to put the vote to the people and the people voted. It was a terrible outcome. But we've had more ballot initiatives since that have, indeed, gone our way. Are those votes unconstitutional as well?

No, not at all. But I the court essentially tells people that they can continue to put out rights up to a vote in order to strip them away, we need to fight back in the same way.
