It was revealed this past year that he had been going to rehab for heroin addiction, which was the first time I think a lot of people were aware he was facing personal demons.
RIP, this is just upsetting. 46. Damn.

Plus, 'The Hunger Games: Mockingjay - Part 2' is not finished filming yet! Now, that movie has been plagued with a huge problem since his character in the book.

God, I'm not one to get too invested in actors but I'm heartbroken over this. When he was good, he was the best. Watching him in THE MASTER is something I'll never forget. He had his best work ahead of him. RIP Mr. Hoffman.

At this time, like Cate Blanchett's Oscar chances w/r/t the Allen/Farrow issue, let's put aside talk of stuff like The Hunger Games and mourn a loss of a great actor.

I have no words. Add me to the chorus of devastated voices, because the world just lost one of the great talents of a generation! He still had so many great performances he should have been able to give, and now we will never see them

I started watching his movies right around the time I graduated high school and I thought he brought so much depth to every role in his movies. It's just so heartbreaking for the world to lose an amazing actor like this. R.I.P.

Adding my voice to the chorus of those who are stunned by this sad, sad news.
I send his family my heartfelt wishes that they find some measure of peace.

Posted: 2/2/14 at 2:57pmIt just occurred to me that in 2004/2005 everyone in the Oscar race had Hoffman and Ledger neck and neck in the Best Actor race. To think now, in 10 years time, both are gone just feels like a void left that can never be filled.

Posted: 2/2/14 at 3:00pmI too also do not get that upset when an actor passes, but as someone I look up to and hope to model my career after...This really is heartbreaking. Truly one of the finest working today and not seeing him in Salesman will be one of my greatest regrets.

Absolutely stunned and saddened. What a talent. Loved him. Didn't realize he lived in my neighborhood.
