So what IS the deal with this place? Last time I was in New York you couldn't throw a chopstick without hitting a Sushi spot. Surely you can find another one that doesn't allow the staff to sleep in the dining room? I mean it's sushi ,not soylent green.

Fickle? You just made me smile. Thank you for that I have had a cloud over my head all week.
Thanks, Namo for making me smile.
I still want to save Raku.
It is 47th between 7th and 8th. It is not hard to find. It is three steps from 8th Avenue.

I've written two world class song parodies to cheer you up. Everybody in this thread has added things to make you smile. Clearly you're upset, you're giving out the wrong address and stuff.

Oh man! I googled it to see what it was like- and the first review page I pull up is chock-ablock with horrible reviews and one rave- from the owner's wife! "ray" even posted his own defense: "true sushi size isn't monster size espec. lunch specials & agree svc can be much better espec. during rush hrs. BUT PLSE BE MATURE & CONSTRUCTIVE, DON'T INSULT my guests & regulars who have given us nice reviews, yes wife planted 1st review!"
ye gods- how did this place last this long?

Thanks. No, this week was hell. First a huge flood in my apt.
(My apt looks like a moldy Grey Gardens and I am serious)
Then the news about Raku. It has been a tough week.
;-(
Tom Stoppard cheered me up.
PS JOE. The sushi at Raku is fantastic. Orgasmic and fabulous. If you have not tried it shut your pie hole.

Corine-here's a little Manhattan 101 course for you:
When you say 47th & 8th, and it isn't there, and a person realizes you've given the wrong address, they do not then automatically know that you really meant on 47th closer to 7th avenue. Some people might even think you meant 9th avenue, or maybe 48th street. Bottom line- I had no time to try to even think about looking for it-I was running late for work.
ANYHOOOOO- It's a moot point - buh bye Raku!

As long as they don't close Kodama, life is fine and dandy.

EWWWWWWWWWWWW. KODAMA IS CRAP. The worst sushi. I got food poisioning there. The worst quality. It is smelly inside.
I hate that place.
(And possibly a parasite from the place)

From this photo two things are clear:
1) Raku Ray did not spend much money on signage.
2) CoCo does not do well when wet.
Maybe it is time to call it a day?

There is one last party.
Monday: 5-6:30.
Hope you all can make it and cheer me up.
PS Broadway might be on strike but you can get my happy hour all weekend.

I got food poisioning from Kodama. Eat there at your own risk!

Sueleen, that photo display is very poignant.
I choose to think it was the tears of Corine that dampened the signage.

You got food poisoning once. I eat there constantly and have never had a problem. It has a higher rating on Menupages and a better health department score than Raku. I wouldn't say eat there at your own risk.

I love Kodama as well. Like the Kodama roll and the wasabi shumai.

99% of the people who work on Broadway shows eat at Kodama regularly. Yeah, I made up that stat, but I bet it's not too far off. I've never had a bad experience nor have I ever heard of anyone who has.

And you know what? SOMEBODY has gotten sick after eating at every restaurant on the PLANET. It doesn't mean it is a terrible place or that the health department should shut it down. Even the best places can get a bad piece of fish once in a while. And when you are dealing with sushi? Even more of a chance. I will bet there are quite a few people who have gotten sick at Raku. CoCo is just one of the lucky ones.
CoCo would rather eat at place with the most disgusting toilets and the rudest wait staff in the world than go back to a place that once upset her tummy.

"Mr. Bentley" has a name, Corine. It's Paul Benedict.
