Munk-
Believe it or not, I would place Craig alongside DiCaprio, Whitaker, and Gosling. He was better than Smith, who was also wonderful. Haven't seen Venus.
but not every solid performance deserves an Oscar nomination.
I think the word "extraordinary" applies here.

I enjoyed Lady in the Water. Probably because all the negative buzz lowered my expectations and it wasn't anywhere near as bad as I thought people made it out to be. I thought it was sweet and kind of fun. The supernatural aspect of the story was secondary to the human aspect of the social bonding of strangers in a crisis situation using faith in a relatively unknown "religion" as a catalyst for the social dynamic, and I think that threw a lot of people off. The film wasn't what people wanted it to be, regardless of the author/director's intent. Which is probably why I hated Unbreakable, coming off the heels of The Sixth Sense, but I should give it another chance. If I can stay awake.
Da Vinci Code is a popcorn-munching action flick and I thought it was FAR superior to most of the action/suspense flicks on offer last year. Idlewild could easily replace Da Vinci or Lady in the Water in the Worst Film category. It was a hip-hop mess of a Moulin Rouge wannabe.

Posted: 1/22/07 at 1:04pmI didn't see LADY IN THE WATER...I really hope Shamaylan gets his act together considering THE VILLAGE was a mess and I hear LADY is even worse. UNBREAKABLE was great and THE SIXTH SENSE is one of the best movies of the 90's.

Posted: 1/22/07 at 1:15pmI despised THE VILLAGE, but I found LADY IN THE WATER really sweet. My boyfriend and I are the only ones that like it. I know it sucks, but I just really find it sweet.

I actually liked JUST MY LUCK.
It was cheesy and goofy, but cute.
LADY IN THE WATER was DOA.
It was too dreary and I disliked that M. Night made himself the most important person in the whole movie.
re: Razzie nominations announced#56
Posted: 1/22/07 at 1:45pmOh, yes, the whole M. Night in the film thing was absurd.

"The Academy seems to think that it's only appropriate to award a performance with crying and gasping for air. There are other great performances being given that don't involve screaming and bawling."
The academy do tend to give it to people that cry and scream, but with Ms. Streep most likely getting a nom you cant say that this year. I also dont really remember any of that in the queen either.

"Ryan Reynolds, the ugly guy from Traffic"
You think he's ugly? Child....
And for Daniel Craig, I'm with broadway...I'm never quite sure why people don't value his performance, but he had to go up against the LEGEND OF SEAN CONNERY--a challenge that no other actor faced this year and Craig triumphed as not only worthy, but in many ways, superior to his predecessors.
I think at the end of the day, munk, we just have two different ideas of what "good" is. No biggie.

I don't think so. I'm agreeing that he's good, probably one of the top 10 leading male performances of the year.
But in the top 5? Probably not.

Posted: 1/22/07 at 8:15pmI must admit that as much as I disliked LADY IN THE WATER, IT had its moments.
