Ricki Lake's talk show cancelled after one season

'The Ricki Lake Show' will be yanked from syndication after one season. Original episodes will continue through September.

“While we are proud of the topics the program tackled including childhood obesity, life-after the military, divorce, and addiction we were simply not able to breakthrough the crowded talk show marketplace,” said Stephen Brown, exec VP of programming & development for Twentieth Television, in a statement. Twentieth produced Lake’s syndicated talk show.

The program is the third lowest rated talk show on television right now. It's unfortunate that she couldn't make a comeback because the show was well-received.

What stands out in my mind about her old show is that she had a guest on whose name was Lasagne.

I didnt know she had a new talk show. I hold her personally responsible for the plethora of crap talk shows on now. She was one of the first to do that sensational trashy stuff.

I've seen it a couple of times, but it's on at the same time as Dr. Phil, whose show I find much more interesting.

No. She wasn't.

MAURY and JERRY SPRINGER's shows both premiered in 1991. Ricki's hit the airwaves 2 years later.

Go back even further and you have GERALDO!which premiered in 1987 and SALLY JESSE RAPHAEL which started in 1983 and started becoming sensationalistic by the late 80s/early 90s.

I was stuck at the mechanics this afternoon and had the "pleasure" of watching Ricki taunt mother-in-laws that hate their son's wife- and vice versa. It was shameful. I wanted to beat her with a nylon full of oranges.

I find the low point in these types of shows was the Maury one where he Found the kids suffering form Pleghoria in his desk draws!

Even Oprah did tacky, sensationalistic "relationship" themed episodes.

The most surreeal Oprah episode ever was when she had Coretta Scott King on, and they gave her a MAKE-OVER! I'm not kidding. Oprah introduced the episode talking about how Ms. King had spent so much of her time devoted to continuing her late husband's work, she hadn't changed her hairstlye since the 1960's. So they gave her a new look!

Sounds like an SNL sketch, but it was real.

it's a shame this didn't work out for her. Didn't Anderson Cooper's show also get cancelled?? I've heard Jeff Probst talk show isn't doing well either.

I don't even hear people talk about the Jeff Probst show. He brought in Lisa Welchel as a co-host. Jenny McCarthy has a new talk show on VH1 but I think it's only on Friday nights. Fame ho Bethenney Frankel is also set to do her own talk show but doesn't one have to be a good listener to be a good host?

Through process of elimination, and because I'm always home getting ready for the day at her time slot, I found myself watching Wendy Williams. I know.

It's only on in the background and it's never anything heavy on the soul - just mindless gossip!

Yes, Anderson Cooper's talk show got cancelled too. I watched it once when Sara Ramirez was co-hosting. It wasn't bad. Nothing like Jerry Springer or these other trashy shows. It was more like Live with Kelly and Michael.

The only time I like Maury was when he did the episodes with the animals. Like I think he brought Jack Hanna on and there were kids in the audience. Really surprised when he did those episodes.

It is too bad about the Jeff Probst show. He is such a nice guy. The show never found its footing. Part of the problem is that his wife is one of the producers. Queen Latifahs show is on hold. Disney is expected to pick up Moniques new show. I saw the pilot and it is actually quite good. Something different.
