The Oscar winner plays Ricki, an aging rock star who left her family for a life on the road pursuing fame in director Jonathan Demme's latest. When her daughter Julie (played by Streep's own offspring, Mamie Gummer) is left in shambles after a broken engagement, she goes home to reconnect with her kin – including her ex (Kevin Kline) and son (Sebastian Stan) – who are less than enthused by her homecoming.

Also Audra McDonald.

Streep looks miscast.

I go see all Rick Springfield movies. Even if Meryl looks like Aimee Mann's and Riff Raff's mother.

If this trailer is any indication, Streep is sure to turn in another excellent performance, and maybe, just maybe, she'll receive her fourth Oscar!

Oh, please! They won't give her another one. Streep stans always say this every year when she has a new movie coming out. It's possible that she'll be nominated -- never say never in her case -- but they're through awarding her, especially for Best Actress. It took them 29 years to finally give her her coveted second Lead Actress Oscar; they won't give her a third just four years later.

However, I don't doubt that she could eventually win again for Supporting Actress. This year, she also has that Suffragette movie, in which she plays radical British feminist Emily Pankhurst. The Academy loves anything British, especially Streep with an accent, and Pankhurst was an over-the-top personality, also Streep's specialty.

I'm in. Requesting a date night for this one. I been to one movie in a theatre in the last three years and that was Big Hero 6, with the kiddo.

Meryl already has three Oscars. She'd be vying for her fourth.

If you read my post correctly, you would see that I was speaking specifically about Lead Oscars. She only had one (Sophie's Choice) for nearly 30 years, until she finally won her second (The Iron Lady) three years ago. For three decades, her most ardent fans complained that people like Jodie Foster (in the span of 3 years), Hilary Swank (in the span of 5 years), and Tom Hanks (back to back) already had 2 Lead Oscars, while "the legendary Meryl Streep" only had one... and a measly Supporting win.

My point is that it took the Academy 29 years (and 13 nominations later) to finally giver her her second Lead Oscar. Thus, they won't reward her with a third so soon, if ever. It would only be four years since her latest win.

Nice to see Audra in what looks like a juicy supporting role. Is this her most high-profile non-television film role? All in all, it looks really well-done based on the trailer. I'm excited to see it.

When you're as accomplished as Streep, there's bound to be backlash. But I'd be interestested in hearing what movies you left thinking, "If only Streep had been good."
