It began very forced. Then Russell Brand sat down and the show became easy. Who knew he would be such a charming guest.
WHY doesn't she stick to the format of THE ROSIE O'DONNELL SHOW? It stills works!

"The Spectacle has, indeed, an emotional attraction of its own, but, of all the parts, it is the least artistic, and connected least with the art of poetry. For the power of Tragedy, we may be sure, is felt even apart from representation and actors. Besides, the production of spectacular effects depends more on the art of the stage machinist than on that of the poet."

Thoroughly enjoyed it! Not perfect, but I'm sure it will only get better with time. It's great having Rosie back! Love the 7pm timeslot and love that they decided to go "live". And airing it simultaneously on 4 different cable channels is really smart. Watching The Rosie Show will quickly become my new nightly routine. Perfect dinner time viewing!

Hopefully it will get better. I am a huge Rosie fan and found it boring with way too many commercial breaks.
I will continue to watch and give it some time. So far I am not impressed at all.

"Nasty, nasty mess"? Puhleaze. I still have the Rosie Variety Special on my DVR. Don't tell me about no nasty messes when I can look at that whenever I want.

I can't stand Russell Brand, so I didn't enjoy that he was the only guest. "When we come back, more with Russell Brand!" ugh.
I hope it will feel more authentic/ less "stand up routine" as they get comfortable being live.
Happy to have Rosie back on tv

I liked it fine. Rosie seemed a bit nervous about the "live" aspect, but warmed up pretty quickly. I'm going to make it my morning routine for now as I expect the kinks will be ironed out soon enough. I thought Ellen stunk for a little while in the beginning as well.
I'm on the fence about having only one guest. I liked Branch so was glad to have more time with him, but not sure about all the guests needing that kind of time. Also, the mini stand-up AND taking questions from the audience may be a bit much in the beginning.
I dont understand why the show is live, however. I dont think it adds anything.
I also agree that there were WAY too many commercials. That'll make it a dvr only show for me.

It was live? As I understood it it was taped during the day on Monday and aired at 6:00 PM. I have heard that Rosie clashed a bit with the Harpo staff who were used to Oprah's perfectionism. I think she was trying to get a "live feel" and leave in the glitches.
I just saw the game show part- I'll give it another chance or two. She's having the Priscilla Cast on later this week.

I'm wondering if there was a stipulation in Rosie's contract that she had to retain some of Oprah's former staff. I also wonder if she has any of her own staff from her original talk show with her. I'm not sure what I think after one episode, but I'll give it a shot.

"Much of Winfrey's old staff has migrated over to "The Rosie Show," including audience wrangler Sally Lou Loveman and stage manager Dean Anderson, but it is clear that some adjustments are still being made on the part of Harpo veterans. O'Donnell likes things looser and less formal. One major change now applies at the studio: Children are allowed at tapings. The audience can take photos (from their seats) after the show, and anyone under the age of 18 can go onstage to get their photo taken with O'Donnell.
During a taping last week, there were some low-key tensions evident. O'Donnell was self-deprecating and commanded the stage with a sense of ease and confidence and, most importantly, humility. But she was clearly the one calling the shots, questioning "re-do" requests she considered to be unnecessary and making the quality of the audience and guest experience a priority — even when it meant inconveniencing her producers and director, which happened on more than one occasion. "Not that I'm telling you what to do," she said from the stage to her director back in the control room, adding, "but I do that often.""

I don't at all, I'm always fluctuating between 80 and 90% full. But how could I delete the world's first and only lesbian hosted variety show with a black on black color scheme?

I thought it was a disappointing first show. Her opening stand-up was not her best stuff. The questions from the audience were boring. I don't like Russell Brand, so I gave up after the second segment. Was it my TV, or was her set and lighting dark and dim? And why was she wearing Diane Von Furstenberg and Prada? She's not Oprah. I flipped over to Ellen (which I haven't seen in a while), and the set was so much brighter and warmer, the lighting was good, and it seemed more comfortable. I wish Rosie's show was more like her old, morning show (with her old set and musicians). This current look reminds me a bit of Wanda Sykes (egad, have the lesbians taken over the talk show format?), which was more of a 'late-night' look. Rosie is more suited to the 'morning' look, methinks.

You're right about the lighting, it was on the dark side. Her jokes landed with a thud from her studio audience. I didn't like the one guest format, plus I don't like Russel Brand to begin with.

Changes are definitely needed, however, much of what's wrong with the show appears to be the result of a low budget. And I was disappointed that today's show wasn't live; so, that may have been a one-time thing. Still watching though. Today's guests were Wanda Sykes and Gloria Estefan. Roseanne tomorrow.
