Actual quote from my roommate: "The new girl doing Madonna is pretty good but doesn't look that much like her."

I swear to Christ.

Overall hilarious ep.

LOL

I liked the digital short up until the end and the song kinda fell apart.

Was that Scarlett Johannson in the porcelain fountians skit? And Lady Gaga kind of lost me during her second song after she switched up the music and sat at the piano. I thought she was going to knock the bench over with that Saturn costume.

I agree. Overall, a good show.

This episode made me even... tolerate Lady Gaga. I thought last week's episode got the season off to an "ehhhh" start, but tonight's episode was a true standout and has set the bar for the season.

I thought Madonna and Gaga were hilarious, I thought the John and Mackenzie Phillips stuff was funny without ever getting too creepy, and on and on. Ryan Reynolds was a great host. LOVED. IT.

They special thanked Darrell Hammond at the end. Is he not a regular anymore?

I hadn't noticed. I just assumed he'd be there forever.

I think Bjork has made the world safe for kooks like Lady Gaga, and I'm glad for it.

Madonna looked great. Lady Gaga stole the show though.

I only caught the last twenty minutes, but I kind of loved it. The police sketch with Ryan just barely worked, because there aren't many people who could even attempt to pull off that accent. I love Lady Gaga, so my comments on her performance are biased, but I thought it was fantastic. Starting off with her most recent (admittedly not very good) #1 single, segueing into the song she was rumored to be premiering tonight, and then moving to her most lasting hit? It was a big eff-you to the people who expected her to do something normal. I'll be the first to admit she isn't attractive in the conventional sense, but she looked fcuking hot.

I kind of chuckled when she seemed to be struggling sitting at the piano, but not in a mean way. She's growing on me, because I truly believe in her crazy, in a way that I don't believe in the crazy of Katy Perry.

For those wondering why Scarlett Johansson was in that short clip (beyond the whole dating the host part), that commercial was a continuation from a past season. The character Fred Armisen played sounded really familiar to me and all I kept saying during that skit was, "Is Rachel Dratch going to appear?!" Sure enough it was the same guy. This would make a lot more sense if you'd click on the clip below. I always laugh at how the Dratch says her final line.

Oh, and the fact that that was really Madonna made me scream like a little girl. I mean, how many times do they say things like, "Here to discuss this issue is Angelina Jolie" and it's just someone playing her. And lately Madonna has been done to perfection by Kristen Wiig. So to see her there having fun with Gaga just made me smile.

Pretty good episode. I thought the Bubble dress skit with Andy Samberg was pretty good, as was the cat fight between GaGa and Madonna. I'm glad she joined in, showing a bit of humility when some think she's so up herself.

Performance wise, that 'orbit' outfit was pretty spectacular and I'm glad she had a little laugh with the audience over it when trying to sit down at the piano. Strong acoustic vocals, and as disappointed I am that we didn't get to hear her new single (Bad Romance) it does make sense not to stand on the heels of 'Paparazzi' before it peeks on the chart. Speaking of which, the 'Paparazzi' performance was pretty cool - not her best though, the sound seemed to be turned down making it sound feeble when she usually sings it quite strong and full on.

I'm not a fan of lady Gaga or Madonna so I'm not sorry I missed the show last night.

I didn't miss it. For some odd reason, it was on our television last night. Madonna looked like a wax-works figure of someone else. Lady Gaga is void of about as much talent as Madonna, with none of her originality, so I don't get her appeal, at all.

I just watched that Madonna/GaGA skit. That was the worst thing I have ever seen. I won't attribute it to Madonna or GaGa's poor acting, but rather the fact that they are given nothing to say or do that is funny.

The last skit with Andy and Gaga was actually kind of funny. Probably the funniest skit from the night, which is quite sad.

I didn't love either of her performances... what a letdown. :-/

I actually ended up turning off SNL during Weekend Update. What a painful show!

The Eeyore joke was a bit funny, but I also cringed a little.

I think Darrell Hammond decided not to return this season, although he did appear in last night's episode briefly. Nothing more.

OVERALL: She was f*ckin killer.

LOVE GAME/BAD ROMANCE/POKER FACE:
That hoop-skirt was doing more hurt than help... (but how many can we expect to see in Manhattan come Halloween?) She SOOOO made it up by singing acoustic for 5 minutes!!!

PAPARAZZI:
Love love love her dancers. I NEED to learn that choreography.

CAMEO WITH MADONNA:
Aaawwwwkward. They must have had only 5-minutes of rehearsal during commercial breaks.

Let's be honest, Madonna was the one who looked unrehearsed. I watched the skit a second time. She seemed to have missed her first part of the song, would pause during silence and talk over laughter and insert lines that might have been funny without the pregnant pauses as she looked at the monitor.

Yeah, I pretty much thought the same thing about Madonna. I thought she was a good sport, but she kind of drug the scene down.

Still, it was a very funny solid episode.

WOW! GAGA did NOT disappoint!

I told you guys she was premiering a new song!

Apparently, since the whole demo for "Bad Romance" leaked she did a portion of that but then segued into an entirely new song that she wrote yesterday (!). Pretty cool and I believe the only time an SNL performer has written a song ABOUT Saturday Night and all that, virtually on the spot (it could have even been improvised, but playing it back there are some musical things she does which make me think it was all written down first). I would honestly put this in the Top 3 best SNL performances I've seen. And that "Paparazzi" remix was beyond fierce!

I was with a bunch of rap-loving Lil Wayne wannabes and even they stopped in their tracks, mouths agape at Gaga's wild "new" composition.

And Madonna wishes she had HALF of Gaga's talent and a TENTH of her fashion sense. I mean, after all, Madonna does not nor has she ever written her own music... and those pedestrian cliches she calls lyrics are usually ascribed to a co-writer as well. Madonna who?

P

P.S. Namo - the quote is "You are PUNISHING me for not coming to rehearsals" if you are quoting Madonna at the 1984 TONY Awards. You, of all people, I would expect to get a Madge quote correct, re: SNL Ryan Reynolds/Lady Gaga Updated On: 10/4/09 at 02:58 PM

I'm glad to hear you say you think she may have improvised, PGenre, because I spent that entire time she was at the piano thinking, "Wow, this is something I would have made up on the spot in high school." Although I never would have attempted to get away with rhyming "cheap" and "street." And Paparazzi was so low energy. I could have danced it just as well. And I can't really dance. I keep trying and trying to see what so many seem to see in her, and she keeps disappointing me.

I did like the porcelain fountain and dog food commercials.
