I think for the pure EXCITEMENT factor, season 2 or last year is the winner so far.

Season 4 was my favorite so far. I have to agree. This season has amazing dancers but something is just very bland about most of them. And I think part of the problem is the amazing Top 20 night. The past two weeks just haven't been as fantastic as that first night.

I hate Toni as a judge. I don't find anything she says helpful. I feel like everything she says starts with "Back in my day..."

You're right about that first Top 20 night. I thought we were in for the best season, ever; and nothing has matched that first night.

I hate that Jonathan and Karla's hip hop wasn't so great. I think he's so adorable and I find it impressive that he's only been dancing for 3 years.

My favorites last night were the Ade and Melissa's Rumba, Evan and Randi's Contemporary, and Kayla and Kupono's (even though I don't care for him) Viennes Waltz.

I really enjoy Jeannine, and I can't decide if it's a curse or a blessing that she's paired with Phillip. He can't really do anything besides hip hop, but he has a huge following.

I agree with you guys about the favorite dances. I literally just gave a rundown to my coworker and the dances I mentioned were Randi and Evan, Jeanette and Brandon, and Melissa and Ade. Karla and Jonathan weren't horrid, but they were awesome. Nobody here so far has mentioned Asuka and Vitolio. I hope they're in the bottom three tonight, but I think that he was sweet and heartwarming in his non-dance segments, so that might be enough to get the little girls to pick up the phone. Asuka just sort of annoys me. I didn't feel like there was any heart or connection to the music in that number. And that could have been hot.

I didn't think Phillip was that bad last night. In the tango his lack of technique was REALLY obvious, but I thought it was pretty cute last night. Jeannine saved it...she's adorable. I really like her. And I actually sort of liked the routine. I'm generally not a fan of Tyce's Broadway dances. His jazz routines have been good, but man, he's still such a jerk. Did you see him in the footage tell Phillip, "It's four walks. Get over it!" Jerk...you are not as all that as you think you are Tyce.

I think Jeanette and Kayla are FIERCE. Kayla's legs and lines are insane and Jeanette can perform the hell out of anything. She and Brandon were great last night and they went full tilt. I think that's been the problem with hip hop this season. Most of them haven't just gone balls to the wall with it. You can't hold back in those routines.

Asuka just REALLY annoys me. It's like she's trying too hard to be sexy or something. And she clearly had no clue what the counts were last night because she was either way late or way early on every beat in "Heartbreaker".

So far, I think this season is pretty good. The hip-hop choreography has been pretty uneven, though. Even if they danced it perfectly, Jonathan and Karla were simply saddled with a dull routine just as Ashley and Kupono were last week. And finally, Tyce presented some decent Broadway choreography. I felt so bad for Asuka and Vitolio the first week, because what they had to work with was dreadful.

Brandon really pulled it out, but I can sort of see how Mia gets annoyed with him. He's a great dancer, but his personality really comes across as one-dimensional, which makes him seem sort of disingenuous. I actually like Asuka. I can't explain why, but I find her sort of charming, especially after the vulnerability she displayed in the rehearsal clip.

My personal favorites to see in the final four would be Jason, Ade, Kayla and Randi (my picks from the first Top 20 episode, actually). The judges are obviously getting a bit testy that Phillip has a following that may keep him in the competition over more obviously gifted dancers.

Based on last night's performance, I would say Kupono and Karla will be next to go if Phillip and Jeanine are not in the bottom three.

I am feeling so lukewarm about this season, which is a huge disappointment as this show is one reason I look forward to during the summer. I was gone last night and usually would have cranked up the DVR and watched it as soon as I got home but just had no motivation to do so. I hope it turns around soon!

I also forgot to add, I'm not a fan of Kaitlin. Yes her technique is amazing, but I don't believe her as a performer.

I 1000% agree! I mentioned that earlier. I just do not like her and I don't find her sexy one bit. The other latin dancer is much much hotter and sexier. My fav performance last night was the "butt" routine eventho Nigel almost made me hate it with all his stupid perverted jokes. He looks just like the Mad Hatter from the 90's version of the Batman cartoons.

Really? I find her technique to be pretty terrible. Yes she can flip around and stretch her leg over her head, but if you rewatch her routines (ESPECIALLY Bollywood and whatever she did last week, I don't even remember - hip hop?) she totally half-a$$es ALL her moves, she doesn't finish ANYTHING!!!

I'm over Vitolio/Asuka as well - although the judges LOVE them, so even if they're in the bottom, I can't imagine them getting sent home. I would also be SHOCKED to ever see Philip in the bottom three - he's had three years of publicity on this show, his following by now must be ginormous.

IMO Its all about Kayla this year. She has been fantastic since day one and doesnt seem like she is arrogant. She gets my vote=)

I agree that Kayla has been fantastic, and I also love her personality. But she was in the bottom last week so I wouldn't say it's definitely all about her.

Yes, Asuka did dance. It was a solo in her style, which is Latin Ballroom.

Well, no surprise that I was totally off. I was sad to see those two dancers go, but there was no way they could have won anyway. I just think they deserved to stay a bit longer.

Glad Asuka went home. And her solo was totally boring - we've had GREAT latin ballroom dancers who have delivered AMAZING solos...not an excuse!

I was a little surprised they called Jonathan out on his gymnastics tricks, but never say anything to Caitlin about hers. LAME.

Phillip got another pass. Granted he wasn't terrible this week but as we have seen when he is terrible he still gets through.

I was sad to see Jonathan go. I don't care for Vitolio so I would have been fine if they sent him home with Asuka.

I'm still trying to figure out what the judges expect when they tell all the dancers time and again they need to "step it up" because they are "dancing for their lives" and they "need to see more" then criticizing them for appearing "desperate". The hypocrisy and inconsistency of the judges is worse this season than we've seen in the past. They really need to get their sh*t together or audiences are going to start dropping off. It's a popular show, but nowhere near as popular as AI and there is no huge Cowell-caliber star (though I shudder to admit that) to cement the audience regardless how awful and disappointing the season may be. I really hope producers are paying attention and addressing some of this stuff.

And as a gesture of good will, Nigel really needs to bring back the male ballroom couple, set them up with some awesome choreographers who will stage a GOOD number (with plenty of rehearsal time), put them in costumes that didn't come out of Rudy Galindo's hand-me-downs, and have them perform as an exhibition in the finale. Let the show prove to Nigel and everyone else that same-sex ballroom dancing does not have to look sloppy and flamboyant. It can actually be very strong, masculine and sexy.

I took their criticism of "desperate" more along the lines of "frantic". Both Jason and Vitolio were putting waaay too much power behind their movements, causing their solos to seem sloppy and rushed. I think part of that comes from the mindset "I only have 30 seconds so I have to get as many tricks into this as fast as I can."

Oh, I totally agree and that was exactly how I felt about their solos, but the judges really need to express that without sending such wildly mixed signals and blame it on the dancers. Not once, but twice last night! The critiques were sloppier than the performances.

I'm gay and I have no desire to see the same sex ballroom couple again. I found them to be terrible I was slightly uncomfortable watching them. I did laugh pretty hard when they fell but up until that moment I was having none of it.

Agreed. I don't think the dancers understand what the judges want and a great deal of that blame is on the judges. They need to articulate what they expect much clearer.

I also don't really have a desire to see the male ballroom dancers again. If SYTYCD wants to showcase same-sex ballroom dancing, they sure as hell won't choose those two men. They were just not good.
