I agree. I think Mia is fabulous but she was just being downright bitchy to some people, especially Brandon. I've loved Brandon since last year, so I was estatic that he got in the top 20.
God, they tortured me having the final two be the brothers. I loved them both with a uncertified passion and to see one of them go was really sad. I am glad Evan got in though, I was more a fan of his dancing.
Oh, and ballet dancer not being able to get in = sadness.
What I dont get is how some of these choreographers become so huge. I mean, aren't they dancers? Can Mia Michaels even do half of the rountines she is asking of others? She was a raging beeyotch lately, so they must been filming through lunch or something. Sorry to be mean, but she was rotten and I am glad Ms. Allen interrupted her. Lately, I've seen many grossly overweight choreographers and I just dont understand how that works, especially when they are draped in fabric. How can anyone follow them?
Weight has nothing to do with whether or not she can dance OR choreograph. Since she's not dancing anymore, she doesn't have to starve herself to be a size 2.
THAT being said....I love her and her choreography, but she was incredibly nasty to a number of folks.
I just love this show. It is just a thing of beauty to see so many beautiful styles of dance. I am constantly in awe of the lyrical dance...perhaps because I am the least familiar with it. I just sit there and marvel what some people can do with their bodies. And sometimes I tear up at the utter art unfolding before me.

I agree completely! Mia is brilliant and IMO choreographs the best dances on the show....
No, you do not have to remain a dancer to be a choreographer. It is why many choreographers start later in their careers and are able to continue a career as a choreographer through the rest of their lives. Choreographers can demonstrate some of their moves, but usually work with an assistant or a dance captain, someone they trust will accurately convey the choreography, to help teach the moves to dancers.
I am so bummed that Kelsea Taylor didn't make it to the top twenty. She was my favorite. What a shame.

What a fantastic top 20 the judges chose! There were some truly remarkable pieces last night.
Loved last night! Melissa and Ade were fabulous, as were Kayla and Max, Evan and Randi, and Ashley and her partner whose name is escaping me right now. Bollywood paled a bit from last year for me, but they did a good job.
I agree about the Bollywood routine, but it's hard to follow Katee and Joshua's from last year.
And I fell in love with Evan last night. He's so damn cute.
I'm so relieved! When the top 20 was revealed, I was nervous...it was like who? who? WHO? All these people who were barely mentioned in auditions/Vegas week. But they are FABULOUS!
LOVED Ade/Melissa's contemporary routine...they are both insanely strong!
Evan/Randi - beyond adorable. LOVED 'EM!
Wasn't super thrilled with the Bollywood number...it was decent, but def not the best of the night.
HATED Asuka/Vitolio's Broadway routine.
I can't believe Melissa is 29! She's one of the strongest dancers by far. Like Mary said, she gets better with age.
Speaking of Mary, WHAT WAS SHE ON LAST NIGHT?! That was the loudest I've ever seen her. I had to rewind after she made the Botox comment. I couldn't believe she said that!
I think was probably the most solid first competition show of SYTYCD ever.
The only number I didn't care for was Tyce's first "Broadway" number with Asuka and Vitolio danced to Hot Honey Rag. It was so lackluster compared to everything else that was offered last night.
My favorite number of the night as to be Max and Kayla's Samba. Kayla was just amazing to watch. However, I do agree with Mary that Max lacks the sharpness and punch that Pasha and Dimitri had.
It's hard to pick a favorite. My favorite girls are Kayla, Caitlin, Melissa and Randi. My favorite guys are Jason, Evan, Jonathan and Phillip.
I thought Evan was so sexy during their routine. Loved that one and the Melissa/Ade routine. I forget the first hip hop couple's names but I really liked that one to.
Phillip and Jeannine were the first hip-hop couple. They were great.
Tabitha and Napoleon's choreography never ceases to amaze me. Their first routine (the one with Phillip and Jeannine) was phenomenal. I didn't want it to end!
I agree about the Broadway routine. It was the only real disappointment of the night. But I'm don't think it was entirely Asuka and Vitolio's fault. I kept waiting for the choreography to really grow and move but it never did. I think Tyce is brilliant, but it wasn't his best work. It was just nice.
I really dislike Tyce's Broadway choreography in general. It seems unfocused.
Evan is very sexy. I've probably told this story before, but I was at a dance with him and we were grinding, and it's probably the most turned on I've ever been in my entire life. Dayum.
I agree Shbrt. I enjoy his other styles much more. For example, Evan and Randi's jazz piece. Absolutely breathtaking.
And for the record, I'm so jealous of you right now I'm green.
Evan and Randi are the cutest little things! And they were awesome. They might be my favorites so far. I did think Melissa and Ade and Phillip and Jeannine were great too. I'm not sure why but I didn't see the Samba? I must have left the room for some reason.
I'm with you guys, too. A) I think I'm seriously in love with lyrical hip hop. I heart Tabitha and Napoleon and they always seem really nice, too. (Nice change compared to some of the other choreographers.)
Loved most of last night honestly. And yes, I think that the choreography was really the problem with Asuka and Vitolio's piece. It felt very disjointed and choppy to me. I think they're in big trouble, but I'm super excited about this season!!

I did enjoy last night. I agree, I blame the choregrapher and program, in genernal, for the way Asuka and Vitolio's number turned out. I hope they don't get out, it would be a shame if they did get out on the first week. Asuka is my favorite dancer this year.
Am I the only one who absolutely HATES Tyce and Mandy? I have very rarely enjoyed their routines. Everytime they come on, I say "Here's another 'old-timey' Broadway number from Tyce" or "Here's another 80s-inspired number from Mandy." They're both just so... bleh. Bland.
Other than the Bollywood routine, Mandy's was my favorite. I was fine with who went home.
Yeah, I am also fine with who went home
After last night I wasn't surprised by who went home. I was sorta bummed that the Buffalo guy went so soon, but since we had a guy in the top 4 last year I can't complain.
Am I the only one who absolutely HATES Tyce and Mandy?
I only like them when they choreograph jazz routines. Any other genre doesn't suit them.
And I was fine with Tony going home, but I would have liked to see Asuka leave instead of Paris. I enjoy watching her more than Asuka, but oh well.
