I like episode 2 of this season, except, I practically spoke word for word the Judge's after she complimented the Father's testimony...we bot said "However..." at the exact same time. Too predictable?

I'd say so. She was in the episode for all of 5 minutes, but 3 of those minutes of her on the stand gave me chills. I hope she at least gets a nomination. Whoopi is still a damn good actress, and overall it was a great episode.
Is anyone going to watch next week??

Great episode. Whoopi was very convincing. I loved her Jack. Nicholson "You need me on this wall" take on a delivery. Could have been really over the top but instead was very thought provoking.
I have to to say I love seeing Mariska and Peter Gallagher all dolled up. Lots of sizzle.

Whoopi was great and played the part perfectly. It was written well, too. Everything she says is accurate. I cringed through a great deal of the episode because I kept thinking, "It's the system!" I'm not saying what happened wasn't criminal, but it is an ongoing unthinkable situation.

Yes it seems they sort of ignored that aspect in this episode. And ultimately shouldn't Whoopi's character's superiors have been investigated as well? Plot-wise this was one of the weaker scripts in recent memory.
And side-note, Rawlins ballooned to being almost full-term within the span of a week?! (And side-side-note, Kelli Giddish, actually had her baby this week!)

I felt like Whoopi was working too hard at getting the message across. She was earnest but not terribly subtle. But still good to see her as a guest.
The writers have done a bad job dealing with Kelli's obvious but unexplained pregnancy. It's almost like they don't care, know that it will not last forever and are hoping people are what, too polite to ask?

I think the choice to be so very near over-the-top for Whoopi's character was the right one. She was in a mental hospital just after. She was at her breaking point.

I believe that was her direct superior sitting next to her at the defense table. They talked about how he had come in on the weekend after the little girl's death to direct the forging of visitation reports.
Whether higher-ups should have also been charged sort of goes to Goldberg's point in her outburst on the stand. But "should have known" is harder to prove than "knew and filed false reports".
BTW and FWIW, I too thought Goldberg was excellent.

I maintain that SVU is and always has been the worst of the Law & Orders. But for another week (after Jefferson Mays and Rebecca Luker/Danny Burstein) they got me to watch again for Leslie Odom Jr. and Daveed Diggs. They did not have as much to do as I would have liked but it was a decent episode... aside from ending completely unresolved. "Ripped from the headlines" episodes have very mixed results.

I did not quite understand why Raul's character was so teary eyed throughout the entire episode. It was like he had developed a back story that we were unaware of.

It was also a rare episode where the instigating crime was never resolved.
I'm curious as to whether the rest of the season will follow the story of the 3 cops involved in the shooting.

Andy Karl was adorable tonight and I wonder if Gallagher had anything to do with the casting given that they were both in 20th Century.He is a welcome addition.

Anyone watch last week's episode? Jessica Phillips (usually just a supporting player as an ADA) was heavily featured, when the story became about her. She gave a great performance and I hope they continue to use her, but can also see her never appearing again after last week.
