I was taught to hunt for food, not for sport. I didn't take any pleasure in it either. Different strokes for different folks, I suppose.
I wish like hell the guy would find some other pastime. His hunting parties strike me as mindless slaughter. Context is everything though. Perhaps he can spin it as some form of animal population control. The article leaves a bad after-taste.

Dr. Walter Palmer runs the River Bluff Dental practice in Bloomington, Minnesota.
He was accused in 2009 of sexual harassment by a former employee who was also a patient, according to the Pioneer Press. He settled with the Minnesota Dentistry Board and his insurer paid $127,500 to his accuser.
The woman said “he made unwelcome comments about and physical contact with her breasts, buttocks and genitals,” the Pioneer Press reports. He denied the allegations but said he settled to “conclude the matter quickly and efficiently,” according to the Pioneer Press.
He was also ordered to complete a jurisprudence exam and ethics course.

I don't have a problem with hunters who kill for food. For the most part, many hunters are responsible, especially in the choice of which animals they hunt. Many hunters respect the value of the life they are taking. What I have a problem with are people like this guy who hunt purely for sport. His kill had no purpose other than to feed his ego.

I know, I know...it's tough for me to get past that too. I'm trying to remain non-judgmental. It doesn't help that the guy's willing to shell out $50k for a license to kill. I wonder how much do big game hunting permits put into zimbaywe's coffers each year.

Buzzfeed unearthed pictures from other hunting trips he has taken. They are also reporting that the dental office has removed itself from all social media platforms and that Palmer will be releasing a statement later today.

The truly sad thing is Cecil's three cubs were issued a death warrant once he was killed. This scumbag is responsible for 4 lion deaths!

This poor old bear runs the company Palmer has hired to manage this crisis. If I were him, I'd get him to stop the good doctor from saying he "took" the lion but wouldn't have if he'd known he was an important lion. Also, everything Austin has posted in blogs and tweets is diametrically opposed politically to Dr. Romney/Ryan '12.

He is somebody who was fined and put on probation for wildlife hunting violations in the past. But now we're supposed to take his claim that he just DIDN'T KNOW it was an important lion he "took." The rest of it was okay though? The baiting of the lion out of the park? That's just standard operating procedure for a rich Minnesota dentist and the "sport" he "loves"?
