"I really don't want to get drawn into this but for many people fetuses matter."
I'm sorry? You introduce an analogy that is inappropriate in countless ways that people have taken time to illustrate yet you continue to reiterate it yet you "don't want to get drawn into this"? You DID this.
Let's go with a movie comparison:
Paying big money to kill Cecil is Hostel, not Obvious Child.

Why do so-called "abortion foes" always insist on flashing their repulsive dead-fetus photos, which they seem to carry around in fold-out folios, the way other people used to carry cruise-ship photos?
Why are these same anti-abortion-wackos always bringing up what they refer to as "dead babies" in the middle of conversations that have nothing to do with abortion?

"I guess I need to spell it out." No you don't, not now nor the countless times you've attempted to browbeat any poster with a differing opinion.
"You introduce an analogy that is inappropriate in countless ways that people have taken time to illustrate yet you continue to reiterate it yet you 'don't want to get drawn into this'?" I happen to disagree with those who feel that there's some sort of false equivalency. Cecil was killed by a human, fetuses are killed by humans in the context of elective abortions, no syllogism intended. We're still cool, but you're being intellectually lazy which is a first for you.
"Why are these same anti-abortion-wackos always bringing up what they refer to as 'dead babies' in the middle of conversations that have nothing to do with abortion?" Can't speak on their behalf. But, if the sanctity of life is your thing, then I hope you have the same regard for the lives of underdeveloped human beings inside their human hosts as you do for Cecil, Fido, and the rest of the animal kingdom.
"THEN WHY DO YOU KEEP BRINGING IT UP???????"
Fair enough...didn't mean to threadjack or turn into a provocateur...my bad, Borstal. I'm bowing out of this one.

Then your 4th and 5th paragraphs should have been the totality of your post.

There is no reason to kill this lion whatsoever.
There are reasons, albeit debatable, for abortions and killing animals for food.

But there are no reasons to mistreat animals bred for food, except reasons of greed and cruelty, and the conditions in which chickens and pigs are forced to spend their miserable lives are deplorable. That's why I offered up a less specious analogy than trying to say hunting game is the equivalent of a woman's reproductive rights.
However, to keep thing half-way fair and balanced, an abortion counter follows.

How many is a .1 on the abortion clock?

The fact people are trying to pull this topic toward abortion, here and elsewhere, is mind-boggling.
Now if you excuse me, I have to talk to a woman in her trophy room full of taxidermied aborted fetuses.

“I accidentally looked at a photo of the skinned, beheaded carcass of the lion. It's like seeing the destruction of a masterpiece. Of course the remains were just left there because Palmer is such a responsible sportsman.”
That says everything, right there.
“Actually, I'm going to assume that many of those up in arms about the inhumane slaying of one lion have no problem turning around and endorsing/approving the practice of late term abortions.”
LHB, Does your stupidity know no bounds?

Does she have pictures of herself proudly beaming while holding the aborted fetus aloft?

"Does she have pictures of herself proudly beaming while holding the aborted fetus aloft?"
Not the entire fetus, just the head, for mounting.

The dentist sent this weird over-sharing note to his patients:
To my valued patients: As you may have already heard, I have been in the news over the last few days for reasons that have nothing to do with my profession or the care I provide for you. I want you to know of this situation and my involvement In addition to spending time with my family, one of my passions outside dentistry is hunting. I’ve been a life-long hunter since I was a child growing up in North Dakota. I don’t often talk about hunting with my patients because it can be a divisive and emotionally charged topic. I understand and respect that not everyone shares the same views on hunting.
In early July, I was in Zimbabwe on a bow hunting trip for big game. I hired several professional guides and they secured all proper permits. To my knowledge, everything about this trip was legal and properly handled and conducted. I had no idea that the lion I took was a known, local favorite, was collared and part of a study until the end of the hunt. I relied on the expertise of my local professional guides to ensure a legal hunt. I have not been contacted by authorities in Zimbabwe or in the U.S. about this situation, but will assist them in any inquiries they may have.
Again, I deeply regret that my pursuit of an activity I love and practice responsibly and legally resulted in the taking of this lion. That was never my intention. The media interest in this matter – along with a substantial number of comments and calls from people who are angered by this situation and by the practice of hunting in general – has disrupted our business and our ability to see our patients. For that disruption, I apologize profoundly for this inconvenience and promise you that we will do our best to resume normal operations as soon as possible. We are working to have patients with immediate needs referred to other dentists and will keep you informed of any additional developments. On behalf of all of us at River Bluff Dental, thank you for your support.
Sincerely, Walter J. Palmer, DDS River Bluff Dental

Iis this the kind of stuff people mean when they talk about SJWs? Are we too PC about hunting?

For me, it's not that he "TOOK" that particular lion but that he "Took" any lion by luring it off a protected sanctuary with fresh kill tied to his car and dragged then killing it wounding it the moment it was off those lands.

Obviously his crisis management team, J. Austin & Associates, hit upon a phrase that pops up in every outgoing message from #TeamLionKiller: I deeply regret that my pursuit of an activity I love and practice responsibly and legally resulted in the taking of this lion.
By repeating the phrase "responsibly and legally," we're supposed to forget the record he has of doing the opposite.

Posted: 7/30/15 at 9:25amIt's weird that "took" is a hunter euphemism for "killed." Is that recent?

As Jimmy Kimmel put it: "You take an aspirin. You KILLED the lion."
The one thing about "took" is that it completely illustrates his entitlement.

When I was studying Environmental Law, "took" or "taking" was actually the legally defined term for fishing and hunting laws and regulations ("knowingly and willingly" is an important phrase as well). We had an especially interesting day with EPA Fish and Wildlife Service investigators and attorneys. I would love to hear their opinion on this.
