Dear Fans of Kristin,
Kristin is in fact not performing at any events in Washington, DC this week. The one event at which she had at one time been in discussions to perform, unfortunately did not provide her with a comfort level in its understandably limited amount of time and programming for the afternoon. She continues to grieve for all of those who have lost loved ones so tragically both at home and abroad recently and she will continue to recognize them in her upcoming performances.
Kristin appreciates all your love and support.

For you brilliant people who just knew what kind of person Kristin Chenoweth was based on her rumored to be doing this and being a vocal Christian, maybe you should read this.

Especially the post by Bobbysworld:
"I actually had a master class with Kristin today!!! She actually was invited to sing at the inauguration, but due to her personal political beliefs she declined. She was then asked to perform at a non-partisan benefit for the tsunami victims. She decided to do this concert, but due to her West Wing schedule and her Carnegie Hall concert on Tuesday, she had to cancel her apperance."

The press's validity is always questionable, so it really isn't fair to sarcastically call anyone here "brilliant" for believing articles to the contrary - or expect them to believe the blurb by bobbysworld on the other thread, for that matter, as that's also questionable (which is not to say that it's untrue). Who knows how much of the apolitical reports we read also can't be verified? Gotta believe something at least tentatively, since we rarely have any way of knowing about anything outside of our own social milieus firsthand. But for the record, I said I'd continue to be a fan of her work anyway. I think the discussions of prejudice on this thread were mostly tangental to whatever was being said about the performer.
Ok...here's what Kristin told CCM today:
After she agreed to do the tsunami concert, a New York newspaper (I can't remember which one she said) reported that she would be performing for the inauguration, which was not true at all. Since then she has been getting hate mail and death threats from all sorts of people---people are saying to boycott her concerts and just being hateful---much like what has been said on this board. She seemed upset about all the rumors and messages she has been getting from her fans.

so she is not performing because she is a democrat? or because she thinks her democractic fans will boycott her concerts?

scudder...please
She is not even in Wicked anymore -!!!!
Second, let her do what she wants...
Being from Texas and the Bible Belt does not equal being a Republican.

agree, priest...
but just from the other side, being on bww doesn't make her a liberal (or a democrat as the case may be)...

YES! THANK YOU FOR YOUR INTELLIGENCE AND REMINDING ME THAT I AM NOT ALONE.
WHAT IS THE NEXT STEP?
WHO IS COMMUNICATING THIS INFORMATION TO KRISTEN CHENOWETH AND OTHER BUSH PERFORMERS SUCH AS LINDA EDER (AUGUST 2004 NYC LINCOLN CENTER REPUBLICAN NATIONAL CONVENTION) AND GLORIA ESTEFAN.
I AM SO TIRED OF THE GAY COMMUNITY SUPPORTING WOMEN WHO ULTIMATELY TURN THEIR BACKS ON US...
omg this is all so childish who cares if she performes for bush or not..she's not betraying gay's she's not betraying her fans she is doing what she does for a living and that's performing.

woah this is getting all too complicated, let the girl sing for whoever she wants to sing for, and if you've noted from above, she is not singing for Bush
besides, even if she doesnt like Bush or w/e, singing for the presidents inaguration (sp?) would do very well for her career, politics all cast aside
shes not betraying anyone

she's performing for an AUDIENCE
JEEZ - i am sure she doesn't supprt the ideas of all the people that go to her performances...

O.K., O.K., O.,K.
Maybe this thread has run it's course; I think serious issues were raised and discussed, with varying degrees of clarity.
I think that the discussion is not negated by whether K.C. ultimately performs at the inaugural or not. It could have been a hypothetical thread ("How would you feel about K.C. singing for Bush's inaugural"). And I don't think that those of us who feel strongly about it are proven "wrong" in our beliefs if she chooses not to sing--I applaud the decision and will resume supporting her.
It may be hard for straight folks, even the super-supportive ones, to really understand the anger and resentment that comes with discussions of this administration and its supporters with regard to the issue of gay and lesbian rights. We have been lied to, lied about, demonized (literally and figuratively) and made scapegoats for so much in such incredible ways that (at least for me) the anger is palpable, physical and consuming. It was going to be well-nigh impossible to make it through four years, and to be faced with four more? Well--I'm trigger happy and I can't find it within myself to apologize for that.
On the other hand--civil discourse is important; we don't want to become one of them. Death threats to poor K.C. seem a bit far-fetched. Strongly worded emails, sure. But we win no allies through stupid, misplaced agression.
Now--what was this about Linda Eder?
Don't forget Bush wants to take the money spent on the inaguration away from the already low funds for education...thought I'd throw that in there.
Granted, I don't like Bush. At all. I think he's a big dumb idiot man, and that's being nice. But it's a great career move for Kristin, and she needs the exposure. She's not performing to piss anyone off...it's just the way it goes sometimes. Life's a bitch, get over it.

FYI--I posted this on another thread that related to this. The entertainment for the inauguration festivities has been planned for several months (before the elections even took place).

I think there's a very important lesson to be learned from all this.
Never, ever believe the New York Post.
Most of you should be ashamed of yourselves.
Someones personal life is not up for this kind of judgement. EVERYONE should realize that what there beliefs are, in fact personal. Where a performer performs should say nothing about their personal beliefs, and you should be ashamed for implying that it does.
Oh, and FYI KristiAnn? You're dead wrong. The lion's share of the non-public aspects of the inauguration are funded by private entities and corporations, not tax dollars.
