This gets publicized
That publicity is no more homophobic or dangerous than the following publicity:
a straight celebrity goes to a public place and holds hands with an opp. sex partner
is heterophobic and dangerous.
It's not as if gay celebrities are entitled to more privacy than straight celebrities are, let alone entitled to more freedom from publicity for what they do in public.
