Oh I doubt it. Sometimes the people who buy into the worst of the herd mentality are the last to see themselves for who they really are.
But I applaud your thread, jrb.

Although the sentiment is there JRB, do you honestly believe that those who feel that way will believe it?? It's doubtful, in todays society it's it drilled into teens that one must be skinny to be worth much of anything. Unfortunately with Hollywood geared in the direction of anorexia is IN and all these magazines how can the impressionable youth stand a chance? Once they get to an age or maturity level that opens the door to well more rational thinking it's too late. It's engrained too deeply. Its sad really.. When girl for example generally wears a size 5 and still thinks shes fat/ bordering on obese there most definately is a problem.
ETA: Not to mention is it not easier to believe the bad about oneself over the good?

That said, I also do watch my weight. I don't aspire to be a skinny person, not that I could if I tried, but I continually try to keep in shape by eating well and going to the gym. But it's also for health reasons.
Yes you are, Corine. Embrace it... I've embraced that I'm balding, barrel chested and stocky.

Caroline---liposuction or lip suction?
I know, cam--Wolf talks about this in The Beauty Myth and Signorile in Life Outside. It's a deep issue in our society.

Well, I'll admit that i keep myself trim by working out a LOT, because any agent will tell you (point blank) "You have to look good. They can make you ugly, but not pretty." It's harsh, but so much of showbiz revolves around it, and I've heard those words. However, I happen to really enjoy exercise.
Aigoo- her bikini looks like Pucci to me.

Hands off my song, Channing.
Ya know, of all the H-O-T boys hanging out on Gay Pride with me at my Extravaganza, the one that made my butt clench was a guy who was a bit on the beefy side, wearing a white polo and madras shorts. SWEET JESUS, DID I WANT TO COVER HIM IN A LOWER-FAT, NON-DAIRY WHIPPED TOPPING AND JUST LICK IT OFF!!!!

CQorT...that's DISGUSTING. Please stop or I won't marry you, no matter how much I love you.
I WOULD NOW LIKE TO MAKE A POINT: In the beginning of the 8th grade, I wore size 7 pants and dresses and such. While it never bothered my that I had more meat on me than the other girls in my grade, I slowly gained more weight, and it just bothered me, having it there. Not because I didn't like the way I looked, but because I didn't feel healthy. Plus, I had less flexability for the shows I was involved in. So I did do a sort of diet thing. I just ran a lot, did treadmill and stuff like that, and watched what I ate. But I didn't starve myself- no where near that! I don't beleive in depriving yourself. I just ate more fruits than I did junk. And it worked.
So, I dunno, I just never understood the obsession to stop eating all together. You in fact lose more weight when you eat healthy and excersize. So I just didn't get it and honestly got ANGRY and fed-up with stupid middle school and high school drama when I saw girls in my grade eating nothing.
That being said, I do understand that anorexia and bulimia is a disease, and some people just can't help it.

Dreamer, I was not leaving boys out of it, I know it goes both ways.. I was merely sighting that as a specific example. I know someone like that..She was easy to site is all..
On that I think I need to leave this discussion as the subject in general makes me ill..

I wear size 6-9 pants. I'm not what you call fat...but I'm "athletic". And due to jumper's legs, I have a hard time getting the pants around my thighs and butt. -___-;
I think it's just the way that pants are designed now, they're too tight and too long...that's why I go to Target!

Beauty truly is in the eye of the beholder... Im too lazy to go back and look for the poster who said that, but I agree.
This sounds cliche, but Im a firm believer in looking for the beauty INSIDE a person and being attracted to that, rather than just their physical features. Sure, physical attraction is a must in a relationship -- who doesn't want to have someone they find gorgeous to come home to every night? -- but it's not everything. I love it when I find a really cute guy, who's cute in his own right, and I see something within him..... something I connect with and sparks with something in me.
There's this guy I know.... amazingly handsome, but incredibly humble about how good looking he is. To me, that made him even hotter. The more I got to know him, learn about him and REALLY connect with him, the more attracted I was and the more handsome he became.....
To me, a person who can make you laugh and someone you smile at the mere sight of, or the mention of their name -- *that's* a beautiful person.
I'll admit I had an eating disorder for a LONG time. I became obsessed with being the epitome of America's idea of beauty.
Im pleased to announce I stopped caring years ago.
