Andyf's humour is so lost on so many of the posters here....
I laughed! I laughed!
So very true. Anyone who isn't sure of this just needs to look at Lindsay Lohan in Mean Girls and then look at her now.
I find it fascinating that there has been a sea change in some parts of the media over recent years, with a lot of magazines actively stating that the current anorexic trend in Hollywood is a bad thing. I remember one newspaper was railing against said trend because Kate Winslet had been asked to slim down for a film role and she had refused. The very same newspaper about a year before had christened Mel C Beefy Spice when she piled on the pounds. And then this morning I walked past some trashy mag that had in huge letters on the front "STARS PILE ON THE POUNDS" along with pics of Matt LeBlanc and and Janet Jackson looking absolutely normal.
Wait - there are ANA PRIDE bracelets?? Oh my God.
I like this thread, but it also makes me kind of sad that you have to tell people that "skinny does not equal pretty".
By the way, let me let all you people trying to lose weight in on a secret. To lose weight all you have to do is, burn off more calories than you take in. So, exercise and eat sensibly. You DO NOT have to starve yourself, but you do have to get off your ass. I say that with love.

Now this is interesting- despite reducing the risk of diabetes and cardiovascular disease, deliberate weight loss could still be unhealthy.

Plum, you are my hero.
This isn't beautiful to you? I think she's lovely.
CM2 where did you get that picture of my sister?? I dont appreciate you posting it on a public forum..
She's carrying my baby. We are both hoping it will be very thin. On a serious note to Silo, starving yourself slows down your metabolism, making you, ultimately, heavier, not thinner. Your body stores more of the calories you consume, as fat, because it tries to stave-off the starving process. Aside from how unhealthy it is to starve yourself, it doesn't give you the desired result, anyway.

What, you don't think the distended belly look is sexy?

Nor is it any fun. When was the last time someone was hungry AND happy?
I'm never happy when I'm hungry. Why do people find it so impossible to eat right and take some exercise?
see, now, i disagree with jrb's original post....
"pretty=pretty"
not always - especially when you factor personality into it. i've met some people that are beautiful but then their "ugliness" shines through once they start talking and their "personality" is revealed...
I had a crush on you until just now, CM2. Now I love you.
All this discussion condensed to a one sentence.
So I'm going to be an Auntie??? wow I wonder if she has told her boyfriend yet that she's carrying your child..
Ok I understand the not being happy when you are hungry, I mean who would be.. but what about those that are just never hungry?
You're only ever not hungry if you're taking appetite supressants of some kind. Or a freak of nature in which case you should be studied.
oh, I do agree with you on that RobbO--I see lots of guys who are technically hot, but are just awful people--rude and disrespectful--and that is such a huge turn off.
Why is it hard, CM2? Well, I will take full responsibility for any laziness or procrastination on my part that I don't exercise enough. But, I do blame my parents a little for setting bad habits for both exercise and eating.
Also, eating healthier is more expensive. So, anyone who has money woes will have a harder time keeping the healthier foods in stock in their homes--as most everything healthier costs more.
Our society constantly throws bad food in our face--it takes massive effort to eat out--and even if you do order healthy food, you aren't always completely in control of it (example, is the whole grain toast REALLY whole grain or is it enriched and bleached?)
Everyone else is bringing crap into work--and saying no is definitely what you have to do. But, then people get offended and start telling you that "you aren't fat! It's moderation! You have to treat yourself!". Yeah. well not everyday, Betty ****ing Crocker!! This is much like the nasty looks you get when caught eating a salad--like what you eat has anything to do with their guilty concious!
So, while I am of the opinion that one has to be disciplined and take responsibility for scheduling workouts despite a busy life and taking full control of what you eat--and screw anyone who has a problem with it, I can say it is damned difficult!
And, some of us just don't have blessed metabolisms.
i'm sorry jerbee i couldn't hear you over the talking of the damned teenager at the mcdonald's drive thru.
"Also, eating healthier is more expensive."
True. I was used to eating fresh fruit and vegetables every meal when I was away at school. Now that I'm home for the summer, I keep asking my mom to buy more fruit, but she just complains how expensive it is. So instead, she stockpiles cookies and chips then complains that we eat nothing but junk.
"And due to jumper's legs, I have a hard time getting the pants around my thighs and butt."
I ran track in high school and we called them the "ugly sprinters' legs". They look good when you're an Olympic track star, but if you don't have that zero-fat muscle definition in your legs, they just look big. I was in the best shape of my life and I still had to keep going up pants sizes because they are making jeans for girls with no substance (muscle or fat) on their legs at all.
Someone said that gay guys have it worse, but I have to say that even y'all are a bit more lenient than girls. Girls have to be stick-thin, because girls with muscle are looked at as being fat. "I don't care if you can run 100m in 12 seconds, you can't fit into size 0 jeans!" I once heard someone on E! complaining that the Williams sisters were "too big" to be wearing their short skirts. She made it seem like they were Jabba the Hutt in tennis whites, for Christ sakes! They're world-class athletes and they're still be compared to Paris Hilton.
The absolute worst thing I've ever read about though was an article about anorexic pregnant women. Nuff said.
It's that men are way more visually critical than women. Again, this is what Naomi Wolf and Michangelo Signorile have written about in their books, THE BEAUTY MYTH and LIFE OUTSIDE, respectively. I don't know if straight guys are less critical but it sure seems that way. I see WAY more heavy girl/hot guy combos that heavy guy/hot guy combos.
I understand what you mean. On the show Rescue Me, there's a really hot young fireman that had a heavier girlfriend and I loved that plotline on the show. In last week's show, SHE actually dumped HIM, because she knew that she could do better. I know this probably happens in real life, but to see it represented on television is definitely rare, but reassuring.
Tiff,
hah...thanks. Unfortunately I think I have been threatened to be disowned by everyone I know if I get a mohawk (and especially if I bleach it blond), so I am not so sure about it.
But I AM pretty intent on getting a septum peircing at the end of August.
