Sue,
My purchase of a Cher ticket is really none of your business. I was simply commenting on it because I found myself on a internet hold while trying to navigate the health care site and the Amex site. Plus going to Cher will make me happy.. and that will make me healthier. I lost my job 3 years ago as a direct result of the Bush years ( well.. that one is a matter of my opinion). I became self employed and making a decent living. But I do have what I now know to be a "pre existing condition" and found myself in a cost prohibitive situation. I am very grateful for the new option that was made available to me today . Perhaps you will understand some day when your no longer being taken care of by your parents and have responsibilities in life to meet.

Cassandra. I'm glad you have gotten coverage and I do hope whatever is wrong with you will be helped.

As I was d earlier in this thread I am glad it is helping people like you. I really am. My main objective as I have saw d many times before is the forcing the govt is making people take it under penalty of law. Its stalin esque in my opinion and for someone who comes from former Soviet Union that's scary.

My Cher comment was a cheap shot and I do apologize for that.

You mean like taxes? You will go the hospital at some point in your life whether you choose to get insurance or not, it's going to happen. You're not even paying for it upfront, it's going to be skimmed from your tax return. And there are exemptions.

if they’re uninsured for less than three months,
if they’re an undocumented immigrant,
if they’re incarcerated.

The teabaggers are going positively batty over Obamacare. I've seen comparisons to the Holocaust and now our resident troll is comparing it to Stalin. Because, you know, universal healthcare is just like a genocide. Lucky for them, Obamacare guarantees good mental health coverage, because, Lord knows, they'll need it !

Yeah someone today told me Obama wants everyone without imnsurance to register so he can round hem up and kill them. That seems logical.

Republicans have put all their eggs into the Obamacare basket- every single one. They have literally campaigned on the "fact" that Obama will decide if it's worth saving your beloved Gramma's life.

So when this all goes into effect, people are going to see that when it comes to Republicans, that emperor done got no clothes. It's going to be a very tough road for them. You're already seeing people realizing "Hey, this is pretty cool!"

^ So I was right. Except I guess for Obama to kill me in that situation, I'd have to be able to sign up. So, I'm safe for right now. :)

And thanks for your insight on your work, Joe. It certainly puts some myths into perspective. Another example of lower income people with supposedly expensive items, I needed to get a car a couple of years ago because my died. I went to a dealership that had a Cadillac for like $5000. Granted, it was like 10 years old, but I could afford that price for it. Did I buy it? No, only because I got something a little cheaper from someone my parents know. But, if I only had a choice of that Cadillac or a Ford Escort, for example, and the Escort was like $10K, of course I would buy the Cadillac. I'm not going to buy a less desirable brand of car if it is more expensive just so I have less of a chance of tea party and other people questioning me how I could afford the Cadillac.

Y'know, i had really, truly believed the 2012 elections would have dampened the Tea Party's influence and set the GOP back on a right track (no pun intended). But it didn't! In fact, they have doubled-down on their rhetoric and now it's even more dangerous because they are in power and have ensured they stay that way through gerrymandering.

Slightly confused as to how anyone still believes it is anything but a troll - thought it had been exposed when it tried to pass off some random picture from the internet as itself.

Also, anyone else notice how its spelling and grammar gets worse as it gets more and more desperate for acknowledgment?

Don't feed it.

I remember one client who I actually got a complaint about from one of our donors- she was in the food pantry "shopping" and then loaded her bags of food into a beautiful SUV. There is a very exclusive area that has private roads nearby and she had a "resident" sticker from that enclave. As the donor said "Obviously she does not need a food pantry!"

Except she did. Her husband had tried to kill her and was kicked out of the house and issued a restraining order. He cancelled all the credit cards and closed their joint bank account. She was living in the house but had no idea for how long- he'd stopped paying the mortgage. She was paying the electric bills with help from our agency and literally was feeding her kids with food from our pantry. She had no income apart from some assistance from the State. ( I think she got about $100 a week) The SUV was a gift from her ex- as she explained "He used to give me presents every time he beat me." The car was registered in his name so she couldn't sell it. She worried she'd get up one morning and it would be gone- either repossessed or stolen back by her ex.

I'd really like to know what drugs or drink conspiracy theorists are on so I can avoid it. No need to end up like that.

I got Facebook post today saying that if you go on the ACA website and decide that health insurance is too much, you get a phone call or email later that tells you that your fine will be several thousand dollars- payable NOW!

And we traced the call...it's coming from INSIDE THE HOUSE!

And that brings me back to a question someone else asked earlier: If the law as it stands is so, so awful, why go to the trouble of making sh*t like that up? That's not a misunderstanding on someone's part; it's a desperate lie.

Reg, I agree. And because the right wing is going into overdrive on all the news outlets, trying to justify their ridiculous move to shut down the government, I have been hearing a lot of talk. I cannot recall *who* it was, perhaps someone like Representative Peter King who cannot tolerate the Teabaggers, but this morning I heard the suggestion from a Republican that if his own party truly believes it's going to destroy the country, stop fighting it and let it go into effect. If it turns out to be that much of a disaster, the American people and market will respond appropriately. If they truly believe it's bad for America, they will stop playing politics and let it go through, and then let the chips fall where they may.

My personal hope is that the program goes through and is eventually retooled, so that doctors are not the ones getting hurt, or that we can finally push this into single payer healthcare. One can dream, at least..

The opposition forces are working hard to spread lies and STOP HEALTHY YOUNG PEOPLE from registering for insurance. They think if they can contain ACA enthusiasm to the old and sick they can drive enough young people OUT of the program and drive rates up.

Joe, that's another whole fascinating aspect of the ACA; the youth and their perception of ACA. I will have to try to find the latest polls but it was interesting to see how little our youth know about the ACA and how many have no intentions of joining it when they turn 26. Perhaps the campaign to scare them off is part of that..
