Romantico I will be hapoy to answer your questions.
1. I wasn't the only one who questioned the Cher tickets.
2 if I dont buy or have health insurance I am breaking the law. With thst comes penalties.
3 it is stalinesque because the govt is requiring you to do something that is a personal decision. As I have been told on other liberal issues. Where does it end? Slippery Slope. Domino theory. What if next they decide you must only eat healthy food. Or you must not buy big gulps cuz its for your own good. Or must drive cars with 30 + mpg?
4 as for being happy for her. I am more sad that she decided to do without HC but couldn't do without Cher
And cassie I'm sure all those welfare and food stamp frauds thst I read about are just made up. Right?

EXACTLY ADAM!!!!! Imm guessing youre being sarcastic... cuz as anyone who lives in Brooklyn at least can tell you, it happens ALL. THE. TIME.
also potato chips, yodels etc
No, I'm not being sarcastic. I'm calling you a liar because it is very much impossible to do that. I've worked at food stores before and can tell you that the SNAP card only works for a very specific list of items. There is no workaround, no manager's override, nothing. You cannot purchase anything like what you mentioned (alcohol, yodels, chips, etc.) on a SNAP card. Many people who use a SNAP card will buy additional items as well. They often itemize and make two piles on the conveyor belt- one with the items they are using the SNAP card to buy, and one that they are using their own money to buy. Perhaps that is what you are seeing, but I am willing to guess you're just regurgitating something you heard on Fox News because your scenario is physically impossible and unworkable. The system won't allow it.

Sue?Mikey?Abby?
Welfare fraud is, by and large, perpetrated by grocery store owners if perpetrated at all. The myth of the welfare mom picking up her multiple checks in her Cadillac and using hr food stamps to buy champagne and caviar is just that: A myth. I argued this with you when you were Abby. I worked at a non-profit that served women & children. I saw all kinds of women who drove nice cars (purchased before the husband ran off with all the money) but could n;t afford a gallon of milk. Likewise, The government program that coordinates "free" phones for the needy has been going on for as long as I've been alive and expanded into cell phones more than a decade ago. And I saw again and again that destitute moms would sacrifice almost everything before they gave up their phone- You have to have phone to apply for a job, to register for unemployment, to enroll your kids in school, to get emergency calls- you name it, you need a phone.
As for the health care/Cher tickets, she's not getting free healthcare- I've got 50-something friends who got similar coverage for about $110- a young healthy person paying $77 a month isn't surprising.

Posted: 10/1/13 at 6:05pmOh and Moms on food stamps have a horrendous time and their kids sometimes get frustrated. If a mom splurges on a $1 pack of Yodels (whatever that is) for them, so be it.

Posted: 10/1/13 at 6:11pmAnybody who claims to have seen someone buying beer/potato chips, etc. with a SNAP card is a lying teabagger. SNAP cards look just like credit cards so there is no way to tell who is using them. But, as we all know, lying is a second nature to teabaggers like Sue.

The thing (well--ONE thing...) that makes me so freaking angry about the GOP is their willingness to sacrifice the health, welfare and prosperity of the Nation simply out of a spiteful desire to deprive a Democratic president of a landmark achievement.
Maybe some of the truly Krazy-Town Tea Party freaks really believe what they say about not wanting government involved in anything (except, ya' know, the farm subsidies, emergency relief, highway maintenance and corporate Welfare that they think is peachy) but the rest of the rat-faced Bastards who have shut down the government are, I believe with all my heart, completely disingenuous in their opposition to the Affordable Care Act. Had this been RomneyCare--which, of course, it mostly IS, but a Dem got it done--none of their principled opposition would exist.
Their behavior is absolutely shameful, inexcusable and just really Yucky.
Cassandra--Congratulations on the Cher tix! And the insurance thing, as well...

I'm consistently confused by the argument against SNAP, and it's the only argument I've seen on these boards, that people are gaming the system. Is that saying that ALL people on SNAP are gaming the system? Or is that saying that because SOME people are doing it, that the system is inherently flawed and should be taken advantage of?
Do people really believe everyone who goes on SNAP is taking advantage of the system? Do they really think that little of the people who need help so badly?
Or do they think that even a few people who are committing fraud are enough reason to shut it down?
Or are they basing this totally on anecdotes? Because I can do that, too. I personally know no one on SNAP, nor have I ever noticed anyone using a SNAP card, so I don't think it even is an issue.

Kad you're right. It's not all its just some. Before clinton came Into office he admitted that the welfare fraud was rampant and cut the rolls by a great percentage. Giuliani did the same thing in nyc. Their reasoning was and is every dollor that's bei g wasted is a dollar not going to someone who truly need it. You see the same thing with these cops and firman and garbagemen who insurance fraud us and Are filmed playing basketball or skiing. Even with Disney to a diff degree with the whole disabled line thing.
It gets me mad that I am followin g the rules and making sure my future is one without havi g to go on public welfare that others are taking advantage.

MSNBC is a news network with a prominent block of left-leaning opinion shows. The majority of their programming is non-opinions straight news,as evidenced by the piece on the ACA you reported above Sue/Abby/Mikey.
It's illustrative to think about the fact that MSNBC fired it's top personality for making an unreported donation to a liberal political candidate. Whereas Fox gives millions of dollars to the RNC.
Another interesting thing is that MSNBC (the LIBERAL Network) features a Conservative-hosted talk show in morning drive. Whereas Fox (the FAIR AND BALANCED NETWORK) makes no attempt to "present both sides" in a fair and balanced manner.

OK as a Brit can someone explain why the Right are so against Obamacare to the point this has had to happen (Government shutdown)? All we are seeing here is that the Republicans (especially the Tea Party) just don't want to let the left have this victory.
And to me the whole health care thing there just confuses me anyway since we have the NHS

What you see is all there is, S&DMan2--Republicans shutting down the government because they lost 2 elections in a row and will do anything--ANYTHING--to minimize the accomplishments of the guy who won.

“Sue, why are you so worked up? You feel being FORCED to get insurance is Stalin-esque?”
She has said, repeatedly, that she is still covered by her parents insurance. So she really just needs to STFU because it doesn’t even affect her.
“Such a childish tactic to g roup anyone who disagrees with you together.”
Coming from someone who does that all of the time is making me laugh.

"OK as a Brit can someone explain why the Right are so against Obamacare to the point this has had to happen (Government shutdown)?"
Because teabaggers spent 3 years scaring the living daylights out of their gullible supporters (Death Panels ! Socialism !) and they are terrified that Obamacare will actually work and expose them for the lying frauds that they are.

Because they just cannot stand that they are being led by a black man, and will do everything they can to make him fail so that we'll never elect one again.
