Your Mom Goes To College

well i have always been a fan of heidi and benji. those are my fav 2 and if one of them wins i will be extremely happy. but i like donyelle and travis too just not as much. heidi is my favorite, although i actually think that benji is slightly more talented than her.

Your Mom Goes To College

Goodness Gracious..

LAURENB - Enough, seriously.

I didn't mean to attack you with my response, and I went back and edited my post so that it didn't come across that way, not to make you look like an idiot with your response for those coming into the conversation after my edit.

I really do apologize if I gave you that impression. And kindly note that that is a sincere apology, no saracasm intended or included.

I'm not gonna lie: I have a crapload of typos in my posts and I tend to write my train of thought. I know I do this, but considering I spend 8+ hours a day typing and writing and sounding all schmucky and formal and all that junk, I give myself the liberty of not worrying about the backspace and my silly typos on boards like this. I never thought it was that big of a deal. I see now that it makes people think I'm some teenage kid looking for a fight. My bad. I guess I'll have to work on that.

So let me go back and respond to your original post again; start from scratch, in other words:

What on earth makes you think that becuase someone is bigger than the other dancers on the show that it effects their ability to pirouette? I really am just curious as to why you really think that's a valid reason, that's all.

If I show you the darkness I hold inside, will you bring me to light?

What we look for in a dancer

rKrispyt - Peace offering accepted and appreciated.

I have also gone through weight fluctuations (and have trained in dancing, figure skating, and some other competitive sports). I know from personal experience how carrying excess weight affects height and distance of jumps/leaps and fleetness of foot, or speed and quick turns, or speed of rotation. The impact of the weight fluctuation is, I think, more noticable when on skates (where everything like height, distance, and speed is accelerated or exaggerated), because of balancing on a thin edge, where you are continually shifting weight on the inside/outside/inside/outside. When carrying less weight, that instantaneous shift of weight or control gets a bit easier to manage imo because the center of balance has a shorter distance to travel (lateral movement).

Mia mentioned that she had to dumb down the choregraphy for Heidi, but she could throw the kitchen sink at Travis. Ron (mambo, was that his name?) threw the kitchen sink at Heidi and Benji, and I think they were the only 2 dancers who could have pulled off that number, without having the choregraphy dumbed down. Heidi is probably the least talented dancer of the final 8 (except for Ivan), but she is fast with incredible quick feet and turns.

Even before Donyelle injured her toe, I don't ever recall her dancing style as being one that I would describe as fast or quick. It's not to say that she hasn't performed quick steps or gone all out in a quick number (was it Hairspray? and the lindy hop). I usually think of quickness in terms of speed of rotation and quickness of turns/steps. Maybe she can do a triple or more. I just thought that her weight might impact her ability to do the quick turns, which we have never really seen. Her doubles are not particularly fast.

Having said that, her recent contemporary solo (Dreamgirls) was incredibly compelling. She has the "it" factor, imo. But I did feel that the choregraphy for Le Jazz Hot with Benji was lame and it felt dumbed down, possibly due to her injury.

I don't find Tyrce's choreography (or whatever his name is), to be very good. I'm not sure why they use him. His dancers are always more capable than his choreography allows.

^ i agree. i've always been the only one who thought that. i'm glad i'm not alone.

oh, i've been meaning to ask. if a bunch of us wanted Fox to release the first 2 seasons on DVD who would we ask? wouldn't that be awesome, though? as a dancer it'd be very helpful to watch their technique (well, the ones that have good technique anyway lol) and learn the dances.

Coma, you have apparently been skipping my posts. Week after week, I have commented on how weak Tyce's (not TRyce) choreography is.

How can you be left out? It's your thread! How do you do those smileys?

That is sweet of you to say, JohnBoy, but I think ownership belongs to she who started it ... ToTheStage.

As for the smilies, the wink, which I most often use, is the semi-colon, immediately followed by a dash, with a right parentheses just after that. So, type ; - ), but without the spaces. Got it?

I don't find Tyce's choreography brilliant either. It's not bad, just not up-to-par with the rest of the choreographers.

Coma-We'd probably have to make a petition and send it to the producers or broadcasting company or whoever.

SPOILER: Dance Partners and Styles

these are the pairings and routines for this week's performance finale. for more go to rickey.org

Travis/Heidi - Disco

Benji/Donyelle - Waltz

Travis/Benji - Hip Hop

Heidi/Donyelle - Broadway

Travis/Donyelle - Contemporary by Mia. Judges loved it. Brian said it was like a moving painting. Mary cried.

Benji/Heidi - Salsa

What we look for in a dancer

Mary seems to be easily moved to tears.

What we look for in a dancer

at least she's being moved to tears by the great and moving performances. i love ivan, but it'd be one thing if she cried over his solos or something lol.

maybe its just me, but i don't think those pairings really do much for Donyelle. travis gets a contemporary and disco's not that hard, easier than waltz anyway. benji and heidi both get their ballrooms.. if donyelle had a hip hip it'd be different. at least its a good thing that shes pretty awesome.

Where are the solos? We're not voting for pairs.

What we look for in a dancer

I believe there are solos. I guess the poster didn't mention it.

How about we not discuss the spoilers so those of us who don't want to know them don't accidentally read something we don't want to?

Thanks!

sry, but i did say SPOILER. but i wont do anymore. sorry.

but i will say there are solos this week. im assuming everyone's solos were good. they usually are.

What we look for in a dancer

Tch, I apologize. That was not for you. Your spoiler alert was clear, so I skipped yours. My request was for subsequent posters who may/may not be discussing the information you posted. I saw just enough in one to make me think that I shouldn't read it.

Again, my apologies.
