Well, that's her right, I suppose. I'm glad they didn't back off of their idea because of her resistance.

This was mentioned the other day on the OLTL board. I just don't really get how this woman can be a working actress on a daytime drama and have this attitude. I mean, really... how many gay people must this woman work with?

I saw Saundra Santiago as Evita once. She wasn't very good.
My liberal white guilt made me want to cringe at the line "producers wanted to go against stereotype and show Vega as a supportive Latina." And then it turned out the lady wasn't a supportive Latina. So that made me uncomfortable.

"Mauceri said she objected to Carlotta's positive attitude because it conflicts with her personal beliefs."
Um, you are an actress! What does your personal beliefs have to do with you playing a part? Are we to assume every actor must believe the acts their character plays in their real life? A very childish attitude to acting. I hope she never acts again.

^^ That's what I was about to say too!
So yeah, ok. I guess that makes Kiefer Sutherland a racist white supremacist because he played one in A Time to Kill. Or it makes Ralph Fiennes a Nazi because he played one in Schindler's List.
It's called acting.

It just goes to show how divisive the gay issue is and how accepted the bias is. Would an actor ever walk because they were going to be cast in an inter-racial marriage or as a serial killer. No. But she feels justified in turning down a job that shows a positive image towards LGBTs.
However, anyone who works in the arts and feels that way will have a hard time. She is going to be flagged now and will lose jobs. She will be revered by the religious right though. Maybe she can book jobs with Kirk Cameron in Christian films.
IMO she is a moron.

I wonder how many times her character had premarital sex (it is a soap after all) with which she was apparently hunky dory? Ah, well. Hope she enjoys her future career in Maggie Gallagher commercials and Kirk Cameron films.

Eriq LaSalle publicly opposed the interracial relationship his character was in on ER. He didn't walk, but he did bitch.

papa, I found her very earnest in the role. I just thought her voice was kind of sucky.
Hope this lady has a good 401(k). Does she know there's a recession going on? She must REALLY hate gay people.

Calvin, she plays the stereotypical Latina mother who owns a diner. I don't know that she's ever had a love interest on the show.

According to her imdb page, she once played "girl in brothel." Guess that was fine, too!
Also, is it a bit odd that the show wanted to break Latina stereotypes with a character playing a maid?
eta -- ah, she's not a maid anymore? I don't watch this show, obviously. I used to watch Days. Their attempt at a gay storyline was, um, pretty sad.

Yes! This was back in '02 or so, when I was still watching it. It was when Matthew Ashford first came back as Jack. He was friends with Greta, but he pretended to be gay because she started falling in love with him. So, she tried to set him up with another guy, who turned out to be the son of the owner of the newspaper where Jack wanted to work. So he played along. And the show managed to exploit every stereotype in the process.

The other gay guy -- Harold, I think his name was -- actually was on the show for a year or two after that, working with Jack at the paper. No romantic interest for him, though. He disappeared about the time Marlena started fake-killing off the entire cast.

Deidre Hall sent out Christmas cards that year with a picture of her smiling with her possessed makeup and those yellow contacts. I have it in a scrap book somewhere. Don't ask why she sent me a Christmas card...
