You know, being an actor, honors student, varsity-wrestling captain, and modern art museum volunteer all at the same time.
Just no job... :)

Of course I know I'm not the only person working. Have you even READ my title?
And my youth has nothing to do with not wanting to work on Thanksgiving. The two don't even slightly go hand in hand.
Oh, and DG, I don't guess YOU worked today, did you? Don't be an ass.

There are very few holidays in the theatre, I've worked Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Years Eve and day, so if you think having to work on a holiday is the worst thing in the world you might want to consider another profession.
Here's a list of some of the shows performing tonight on Broadway.
Avenue Q 8 PM
Chicago 8 PM
A Chorus Line 8 PM
Les Miserables 8 PM
Mary Poppins 8 PM
Rent 8 PM
Besides having to do a performance tonight, a number of those actors were up at the crack of dawn to participate in the parade. Not exactly what one would call a holiday.

I didn't wanna work today. Made a thread for people who felt the same way. Then idiots like you come and try to turn it around to something it's not.

I have had to work on Thanksgiving before, and it has never bothered me.

In answer to this query:
"And are you REALLY going to try to compare doing a Broadway performance to a job at Starbucks? Get real, sweetie."
What I was comparing it to, was the fact that these people also had to work on the holiday, just like you, and since you seem to be looking for a career in the theatre, I was making the point that there are very few holidays in the theatre that are observed with a day off. Whether you are working at Starbucks, or on Broadway, Off-Broadway or in a regional theatre, the fact remains that you're still working. So, maybe since Thanksgiving is such a HUGE deal at your house and will probably continue to be in the coming years, you might want to consider a career where you guaranteed your holidays off. Perhaps, grave digger, or bank teller might be a better career choice for you. Sweetie!

Hehe, yeah. There's that element, too. I mostly remember my positive experiences from working on Thanksgiving, (The young soldiers away from home for the first time looking for instances of kindness, the "different" people looking for a respite from their families), I completely forgot that you also have the people who are so crabby even their own families don't want them around.
Still, pound for pound, I remember my working Thanksgivings fondly. I enjoyed them, and got a lot out of it in return both personally and monetarily.

...and then you'll know! You'll be thankful you were young once, and a job at Starbucks was all it took to make ends meet.
So, enjoy the day! And enjoy this time in your life. It goes by very quickly.
Yeah, Im one of those adults with the big fat job with the big fat paycheck and Im still complaining about not having today off.
I just started a new job last week (they basically stole me away from my old company, offering me a $23,000 a year pay increase -- clearly, only an asshole says no to that)..... I was actually anticipating having today off, but apparently not. At my old company, we're closed today. Here, not so much. It's annoying because Im basically the only person in the building (I think there are a total of 25 other people working around the rest of the complex and that's it) and there's really no need for me to be here.
Oh well, Im salary. Im working till 3pm and Im going home. I'll tell ya what though, my commute this morning was easy as hell. Only took me 10 minutes to get here (as it should when there's no traffic); it usually takes me at least 25.
If in Heaven you don't excel, you can always party down in hell...

Everyone else was talking about actually working on Thanksgiving. I'm assuming you did not work yesterday. Working today is not a big deal, in my opinion...
Speaking of which, I have to say I had a great day yesterday (working), doing 8 performances at Disneyland. Our cast had a pot-luck, and we ended up having way too much food! We had everything. Turkey, mashed potatoes, stuffing, cranberry sauce, the works. Plus appetizers like chips and onion dip, veggie dip, chips and salsa, shrimp cocktail, etc. And we had apple pie, pumpkin pie (and whipped cream), cookies, chocolate covered strawberries... Basically a feast! And the families that were there were so excited to be there... Oh! And Jon Voight came to the show twice (to catch both sets of Princesses) with his granddaughters and apparently was very nice. (I never got to meet him, as my character just performs on stage, but the "attendants" who help out in the crowd said he was great.)
So, even though I didn't get to spend the day with my family, I had a very good Thanksgiving.
Today, I'll be singing at the Grand Californian hotel. And I don't mind one bit!
(Edited for typo.)
