Starbucks will be open.
I'm gonna be frank and say, if you have any heart at all, please don't come bother us with your Triple Venti 150 degree extra caramel no foam caramel macchiatos. We are humans too...

Well, Matt Lauer has to work, but he's never bitter.
I promise not to go to Buckys. I don't like coffee, so don't worry.

Posted: 11/23/06 at 12:51amMr. Lauer also gets paid much more than I do, and doesn't have to work 8-hour shifts.

Posted: 11/23/06 at 1:01amwillact-I work at Starucks too but by some miracle our DM decided to have us close thanksgiving day. And then I was supposed to cover a shift from 5am to 1:30pm on Friday at a another store but the person called me today and said I didn't have to cover it anymore so I now have three full frappaccino-free days in a row! :)

willact4food, when I was a barista in a chain store I always jumped at the opportunity to work Thanksgiving. The customers I did have were either military away from home or refugees from their own families. Either way, it was uplifting talking and spending time with them. And the tips were, like, TRIPLE what I'd get on any other day. It was a fun time and the money was good.
It may sound insane, but if I had my pick of places to spend tomorrow I'd be back behind the counter at that Books-A-Million. Those two years were the most rewarding Thanksgivings I can remember.

re: So, who actually has to work tomorrow?#14
Posted: 11/23/06 at 4:27amI don't have to work tomorrow. Although I do have to work on Friday from 5 til close and that means it's going to be total chaos (I work in a shoe store, so you can well imagine the insanity).

You young folks with your young jobs.
Someday you'll be older, with big, fat jobs, and big fat paychecks... and big, fat stomachs... and big, fat responsibilities...
...and then you'll know! You'll be thankful you were young once, and a job at Starbucks was all it took to make ends meet.
So, enjoy the day! And enjoy this time in your life. It goes by very quickly.

Hey, it's a trade-off. I have many things in my life that I didn't have as a teenager.
willact---Why would you even consider asking your entire family to wait for you?

Willact - try as I might to just read your little whine as a kid being pouty, it really strikes me the wrong way - especially on this day set aside for thanks.
Many people on this planet don't have jobs - in fact, they don't know if they'll have enough food to survive the day. Many people also don't have homes, much less family to go home to.
I can assure you that you are not the only person working today. In fact, while you're standing behind your counter being bored and moaning and whining about the pitiful plight of your existence, there will be many who are simply trying to stay alive, with virtually no hope of a better or different existence tomorrow.
Again, I get that you're young, and that you only have your own experience to deal with - and that it's not as perfect as you would like right now - but PLEASE, show a little restraint, and understand that you really don't have it THAT bad.

My boss wants to be a d*** which he is all the time anyway
We come in so he can let us off at noon. This way he can screw up our 4 day weekend. I have a long memory & do absolutely nothing extra for him from this point forward
