It looks good. Mostly of Emile Hirsch.

36% Rotten on RT. My favorite quote so far:

"Imagine someone pouring hot, melted Starburst candies into your corneas, and you just begin to approximate the experience of Speed Racer, an ice-cream headache of a movie ... "

I know Into the Wild provided some of the best on-screen moments for Emile, but I may just have to see this for the sake of him.

That "melted Starburst" quote is priceless.

"Some people can thrive and bloom living life in a living room, that's perfect for some people of one hundred and five. But I at least gotta try, when I think of all the sights that I gotta see, all the places I gotta play, all the things that I gotta be at"

How can it be bad? Emile Hirsch is in it. I adore him.

Especially on "fuchsia vomit."

You know he dragged those words out and milked them for all they're worth!

I have yet to read a good review of this. Stephanie Zacharek in Salon.com:

"Speed Racer" is so arrogant about its so-called stylishness and energy that it feels like punishment, the equivalent of being trapped at a dinner party between two guys who feel compelled to inform you, in long-winded detail, how great they are. This isn't a picture filled with wonder and a sense of fun; it's so jaded and crass that I almost wonder if it's a highly unscientific experiment designed to gauge how little audiences will settle for these days. Manic and multicolored, "Speed Racer" is an excess of nothingness."

It's an opinion. Impossible is not a declaration. It's a dare. Impossible is potential. Impossible is temporary. Impossible is nothing.” ~ Muhammad Ali

Emile is an amazing actor. It seems like an odd choice for him, he struck me as more serious. Oh well. I think he's wonderful.

However, yesterday they were airing these very odd "Mother's Day" versions of Speed Racer commercials on Lifetime, E!, Bravo, and ABC that I saw. The commercials basically had all Susan Sarandon and Christina Ricci clips and had voiceovers like "Make her Mother's Day a speeding success!" "Race your mom to the movies this Mother's Day." I was like, are you kidding me? If I was a mom and my family took me to Speed Racer, there would be a Regal Cinema massacre.

Plus, Sarandon is probably in 10 minutes. It's not like it is a chick flick. UGH!

The Dallas Morning News gives it an "A." I have not yet read the review.

I saw a screening of SR last Saturday night. The first 30 minutes were fine because the graphics were very impressive and unlike any I'd ever seen in a movie but then it just goes on and on and on and on and I was ready to walk out after about an hour. I was with a friend so couldn't but my god, what a waste of two hours of my life. To think I could have seen a B'way show instead. Ughh!

Yeah, one complaint a lot of reviewers had about SR was the length - many said that it was entirely too long.

I can't even watch the 30-second previews of this. It looks like a movie that could actually make audiences go blind and/or have strokes.

It's painfully bad. In almost every way. I agree that it's visually impressive for about 20 minutes but then things just get repetitive and migraine-inducing. And it's a shame because this cast is so good...

I really did not like it at all.

I'll go see it because of Emile and Matthew Fox. If they weren't in it, there would be no chance in hell I would sit through what looks like one of the worst movies of the summer.

Thanks for the headsup, wickedrocks. I'll bring the Tylenol.

For Jon...

SPOILERS SPOILERS SPOILERS! (Dude, it's only Speed Racer.)

Speed thinks he figures it out. However, Rex had plastic surgery after faking his death, so when Speed confronts him about it and Rex takes off the mask, he doesn't recognize him.
