I would have to agree with this assessment. The plot parallels to the original movies were much too close. That said, I enjoyed it a lot, and I think they found good actors to carry the franchise forward.

I agree with those complaining about the close parallels with the originals. Felt like a fan film to me, but it was decent enough.
And was that a Lin-Manuel Miranda cameo I spotted? He also wrote the songs, which I didn't know about.

Actually got to see this on Christmas Day. It was nice to see the original characters again as Leia, Luke, and Hans Solo. I thought the sound effects done in the movie were awesome. I also thought that they could have done a little bit more character wise in the movie. In parts I thought that it was a little slow and boring. However, that is just my opinion. There were a couple of people in the theater dressed up as the troopers. I am looking forward to another one because the movie can't end where it did.

The only "cameo" I can imagine is that LMM and JJ Abrams were also singing the cantina songs along with having written them.
