Well, I finally saw the halftime show a few minutes ago on YouTube.
I enjoyed Gaga and Ricky Martin because they actually sang.
Bad Bunny though.... He didn't sing a note, so his performance was basically a man giving a very long speech in a foreign language. My takeaway re: any kind of "message" was: "If a tree falls in the forest, but no one is around to hear it fall, did it actually make a sound?"
FTR, I disagree with TV pundits who have said, "You didn't need to understand Spanish to have enjoyed his performance".

During halftime, I am usually making additional snacks and making drinks for anyone that is not drinking beer (they can get it themselves in the cooler). The few halftimeshows I just sat and watched were when people like Prince, McCartney and Springsteen did it. I will watch "Green Day" play before the game."
Arguably Spanish is NOT a foreign language, at least no more than English is.

Arguably, it IS in a country where nearly every state has declared English as its official language.

Do you think Trump was right to make it the official federal language?

Just in case the dumb, racist, ignorant or simply confused need a geography lesson: America is a continent. The United States is just one Country in it. Many people I was with screamed tears of joy last night when their Countries flag was displayed. From Saint Lucia to Brazil to Nevis, what a gorgeous display of joy, culture, and love. Everyone was included. Beautiful.

Executive Order 14224 does not include specific rights and is largely symbolic. It's not a Federal statute. That would require an act of Congress. More info HERE.

For the pompously ignorant, there are three geographical areas called, "America": North America, Central America, and South America. The US is one country in North America.

WAIT! The old, white, boring, racists of BWW did NOT like this? You know who else hated it?
The old, white, boring, racists around the globe. You are exactly like Rapey McCheese in your ignorance, hate, and complete inability to realize other cultures exist in America, and how important it is to celebrate them on America's biggest stage. 59/60 half time shows were performed in American English. Wouldn't think .6 of anything would have people losing their minds but then I think of the people who are offended. Yeah, it tracks. Such snowflakes! ![]()
People who need a separate half time show are the kind of people who needed separate drinking fountains, schools, and busses. Thank God your generation is dying out ![]()

Yes, it is political song. You do know that "American Idiot" is probably their most famous song and there was a Broadway musical based on the album of the same name. I am sure most fans of "Green Day" expected them to change the lyric "I'm not part of a redneck agenda" to "I'm not part of the Trump agenda" but they made the decision not to go there during Super Bowl. If you don't think they performed it because it is their biggest hit, I don't know what to tell you.

Do yourself a favor and get the English translation to the words he spoke. Get back to me what you thought of it.
Lady Gaga and Ricky Martin are very talented, they could probably do an excellent halftime show together.
It is hard to imagine enjoying something if you have no idea what the performer is saying.

Well, look who posted in my thread, the one and only "America's Sweetheart" (Sutton Ross). Quite funny because she has supposedly blocked me and calls me every nasty name in the book. Good to know she can't resist me and my posts. (just teasing everyone)

I'm open to any suggestion you have for where to find a translation, or a video that includes closed captioning (I can't imagine why there was no closed captioning, unless there was a restriction set that specifically barred its use)*.
I speak Castellano (the Argentine dialect of Spanish) fluently and usually have no problems understanding Spanish or Mexican dialects. Portuguese and Puerto Rican are a different story, however.
Similarly, although it's English, I need to concentrate harder to understand the Scottish dialect.
* EDIT: found this article from the New York Post which says: "...the Puerto Rican star made no effort in his Spanish-only performance to include the 78% of American households that speak only English.
Bad Bunny previously taunted that anyone annoyed with his selection as halftime performer had 'four months to learn Spanish.'"
The article also makes the point: "Subtitles would have been ‘countering division,’ having none encourages it.”

They won't follow through on blocking me, either.
It's kind of pathetic to see them struggle at trying to hide that they're speaking about me, specifically, in posts #30 and #33. They know that to quote, or directly address me would demonstrate their inability to follow through on their "threat" (blessing) - which I, too have called them out on.
It's always good for a chuckle. ![]()

Bad Bunny is the most streamed artist in the world. Including the United States. His songs are in Spanish. If you think choosing to perform his songs as they are written, in his natigve language, is divisive you migght be a racist.

You've misinterpreted the issue.
It's not the choice "to perform his songs as they are written, in his native language" that might be considered divisive.
t's the choice made to exclude 78% (that percentage may or may not be accurate) of US households that the Post's article finds questionable.
That decision to be exclusive (and the additional choice to make a public statement that was phrased as an ultimatum) raises issues similar to those of Francophone in Canada. (Notice how the words, "divide" and "division" are used in the article.)

Knowing every word was not essential to enjoying the performance.

On FB, I saw a reel that people said some of the lyrics were vulgar. which is why I made that comment. Considering the amount of people inquiring what he said you would think it could be found with Google search.
I was not annoyed that "Bad Bunny" did it in Spanish, I believe that is the language he uses in his music. My problem was that the NFL selected him knowing that a great majority of the audience would not be able to understand what he was saying. Maybe NFL had reason for not letting audience know what he was saying.

Although that's true for me (and FTR, it was a very similar experience to watching a video with the sound turned off), I can absolutely respect that your mileage may vary.

Really Jay. Not knowing what a Grammy winner is saying is not essential to the enjoying the performance. That is like saying going to an Italian opera can be enjoyed without knowing what they are singing. BTW - they do provide translation at the opera. I understand you could enjoy visual aspect of performance, but why should you have to settle for only that part of the show at US sporting event. My sons speak Spanish pretty well and they could not understand what he was saying.

I agree but my guess is the Commissioner of the NFL has his hands over everything that goes on during the Super Bowl. I would also bet they decided against subtitles because there was a chance he may say something that could be considered sexual or offensive in some way. Actually, I am really waiting for Taylor Swift to do the half time show. Imagine the ratings!!

What a naive statement. Bad Buddy is one of the highest streaming artists currently and is a Worldwide name. The Superbowl is the most watched event worldwide. The Superbowl isn't solely for Americans. Anyone with any sense of artistic knowledge will have understood the point of his halftime show.
