Survivor: Redemption Island (The Return of Boston Rob & Russell Hantz)

The cast has been announced for the next season. It includes two former football players and a beauty queen. Two former players are also returning. Rumor has it that Boston Rob and Russell Hantz will be team captains of the two tribes. I really didn't like "Nicaragua" that much and I hope this season will be an improvement. Meet the cast here:

I love the team captain idea. Rob and Russell hated each other!

Not so thrilled with the former athletes and pageant winners. I would rather see the scout leaders and retired science teachers.

I wont watch another season with Hantz OR Morano, and I hate the idea of captains...what's the point? Neither of those aholes need any more exposure.

This will be the first season I didnt watch.

Ugh.

I totally agree, doodle.

Count me out - for the first time.

Edited on 2/16 - I wish I knew how to quit you, Survivor. Even with Rob and Russell... I'm just a devoted fan. I'm in.

I remember the "team captain" idea being used before. Bobby John and Stephenie were brought back to do the same thing. I don't mind Rob so much. He really seemed to have mellowed out last time, but he had trouble handling it physically. I detest Russell Hantz. I don't see the advantage to bringing him back unless they are only casting people who have never watched the show before. I'd vote him out the first week he didn't have immunity.

"I'd vote him out the first week he didn't have immunity."

The other rumor is that they have immunity until the merge, but neither this nor their participation have been confirmed. The two contestants will be revealed soon, but it's likely that it will be Rob and Russell.

"I don't see the advantage to bringing him back unless they are only casting people who have never watched the show before."

Many of the contestants from this season consider him to be their least favorite player of all time. So, everyone has watched him on the show.

I hope not. That would really suck for all the new contestants. Anyone getting their third or fourth shot at the million dollars (and having the previous experience of the game that comes with it) deserves to be an easy target over those getting their first shot at the prize.

Survivor: Redemption Island

It's official, Boston Rob and Russell will return to "Survivor." However, like Stephenie and Bobby Jon in "Guatemala" neither of them have immunity. Either one of them could be the first person voted off. Jeff probst does not think that they will though, "I do not think Russell or Rob will be the first person voted out of this game. Because I think they bring too much experience — 156 days between the two of them. When you’re playing a game, there’s a lot to be learned."

If Russell is not voted out at first chance, then we know the level of stupidity we're dealing with this season. I can't think of a single reason anyone would keep him around. And seeing him getting voted off first on his tribe would be even better than seeing him lose at the end.

I liked Russell. Three times in four seasons is too much. And Mister Matt, I think you're wrong -- there is a HUGE reason to keep him. NO ONE in their right mind is giving him any money. If RUSSELL is smart, he'll play that angle up with all his alliances. As long as people stay stupid enough to not talk to each other (which we've seen time and time again they are that stupid), he might well be able to play them.

The second he gets caught, he'll be gone - however, keeping him till the end is not a bad idea - he really can't win the game.

I thought of the angle of keeping Russell because he couldn't win, but given how easily he'll cut anyone's throat in the game, I think it's too big a risk to keep him around. And aligning yourself with Russell could turn out just as bad (ask Parvati). I don't think people would be too happy with someone riding the Russell wave until the end. You have a bunch of angry players on the jury who saw you were aligned with Russell and used him to get to the end so you could get an easy win, it could be disastrous. They may very well award Russell the money knowing what a power player he is and that he probably did most of the work to get to the finale. I think there are way too many cons to keeping Russell than pros.

That's a good point. I don't know - Russell is sneaky - I wouldn't put it past him to find some way to make it work.

I'm still not quite clear on the whole Redemption Island thing either - how that will work. It's hard to make predictions with that complete wild card in the mix.

Uuughgggggghh!

LOVE "Survivor" but seriously GROANED over this news.

I can't... just can't handle another season with Russell OR Rob.

I'm trying my best to weed through the contestants, but it appears as if there is (yet again) no LGBT representation. This isn't a requisite for the show, sure, but it sure as helps.

Jeff Probst said the idea of them coming back came from the live "Survivor Heroes vs. Villains" show when Rob told Russell he'd gladly go back and take him on again.

CBS may have also thought that since "Nicaragua" wasn't as good as other seasons they wanted to bring back some familiar faces to make the show entertaining again.

There is nothing entertaining about Russell. The only worse person they could bring back is Johnny Fairplay. I'd rather see Randy back.

Russell has been accused of revealing the elimination spoilers of "Samoa" and "Heroes vs. Villains."

Y'know, just seeing the previews with Rob makes me not want to watch this season. I mean I REEEEEALLY hate him. If his tribe is smart they'll vote him out the first chance they get. Of course, I can see them wanting to keep him around because he'll tell them how invaluable he is to their survival there.

I despise that man.

I think it should be law that Rupert must be in every season of the show, though.

Rob used to bother me but now I kind of like him. Russell, on the other hand, repulses me. He's a vile, little, toothless man.

And I can handle Russell because for some reason I think he's hot. I can't look at Rob anymore since he got those new Hilary Duff teeth. At least he won't have Ambuh there, though.

"Y'know, just seeing the previews with Rob makes me not want to watch this season. I mean I REEEEEALLY hate him."

I met Rob in 2005 and he was very nice and so was Amber. He also seemed like a good person from his interviews whenever he was on the Early Show.

In an interview at Entertainment Weekly Russell admits that his social game stinks. He also gave a lame excuse saying that his head was not in the social part of the game in "Heroes vs.Vilains," but I don't believe that at all. He said that he and Parvati were never going to vote each other off and they were loyal to each other to the end, he could not be loyal to Danielle because she freaked out. He also thought that Coach believed him more than he believed Rob.

I'm not a fan of bringing people back (ever), but I'll be watching. It should be interesting.
