Sweeney Todd unliked like wicked?!

Just curious..I was out and about looking at CDs and I saw the "company" cast recording and then was looking at "Sweeney todd" and some guy looks at the CD and goes obnoxiously "Eww". Just curious is sweeney worth buying? It made me put it down and rethink because I really don't have all that much to spend on CDs. thanks so much!

As tired as I am of the show (stop your bellyaching, priest), it really is a masterwork of the genre and should be in everyone's collection.

Personally, I think Sweeney is just brilliant. However some people can't move beyond their basic disgust with the premise to understand its granduer. But who knows, maybe with the public's fasination with bloody tv shows will allow it to be more widely appreciated.
Sorry about all the misspellings in this, but I am far to braindead right now to go and correct them.

After listening to a recording of Idina completely butchering 'Not a Day Goes By,' I'd have a complete and total meltdown if she ever even attempted to come anywhere near a role in a Sondheim show.

If the confession is that you've never heard/seen Sweeney, I'll be depressed. You don't know how many PMs I get from people saying they've never heard it and asking me if it's "really as good as they say" and should they "really go out and buy it"?

If it's how much you hate SWEENEY TODD, I wouldn't hate you. A more obnoxious sounding score, I've never heard. I even had friends in the original and touring casts, so I saw it a couple of times. I hated it. The cast was fine, but the music is dire, to my ears.

It is possible he didn't like it. Some people don't. But if someone were looking at a cd case and saw that it was about baking people into pies it might elicit the same reaction.
