Taylor Swift is getting more harsh reviews just right after her Grammy performance. Her performance in "Valentines Day" is getting PANNED everywehre:
Some teen viewers may be drawn by the lure of the two Taylors, but their time onscreen together arguably reps the film's low point," writes Variety's Todd McCarthy regarding Swift's performance alongside onetime boyfriend Taylor Lautner. "Swift, especially, seems entirely undirected, as she jumps around, makes faces and jabbers on inanely. If she's to have a film career, she needs to find a skilled director to tamp her down and channel her obviously abundant energy."
The Observer film critic, Rex Reed, is even more dismissive of Swift's "Valentine's Day" performance than he is of the movie itself: "This labored artifice strings together an 'all-star cast' (by today's dubious definition, anyway)," Reed writes in his review of the Garry Marshall-directed movie, "that runs the gamut from tone-deaf Flavor of the Moment Taylor Swift and movie werewolf Taylor Lautner to veteran Oscar winner Shirley MacLaine,"
Even OK! Magazine, which spills endless ink charting Swift's every move, goes for the blond starlet's jugular. OK!'s movie critic, Mary Beth Quirk, dismisses Taylor as "not an actress," adding that Swift proves such a criticism by putting in a "regrettable" performance. "The movie isn't awful, and nor is it an award winner," the OK! critic declares, "unless you count Swift's frontrunner status to add a worst supporting actress Razzie to her shelf full of Grammys."

Most people here appreciate talent and already know Taylor has much less than she's given credit for.

She's even terrible in her ONE-LINE snippet in the trailer.
makes faces and jabbers on inanely
Isn't that what she does when she sings, too?

There is something about this girl that annoys me. I find it unlikely she really writes her own songs like she claims. I think she's another Beyonce. HA!!
This movie looks SO bad from the ads alone. I will be avoiding it.

So true jg. I don't have anything against the girl, but Fearless was the most boring, middle-of-the-road album I heard all last year. That it won Album Of The Year is pretty sad.
Did you guys hear about her new home in Nashville? She has a moat around her living room and a human sized birdcage.

Taylor Swift = Boring vanilla pop princess.
Kanye should have smacked her in the head with that MTV award. Well, maybe not. She is just one big snooze fest as far as I am concerned.

Posted: 2/11/10 at 9:24amYeah, I don't get all the hoopla around Taylor Swift. I wasn't a big fan before the VMA incident. Like Tazber, I found Fearless to be very boring and very run-of-the-mill. The fact that it won Album of the Year over Dave Matthews Band, Lady Gaga (whom I don't really care for either, but had a much better album than Swift's), and Beyonce is a travesty. Kanye West interrupting her at the VMAs was the best thing that could have happened to her because ever since then she's been raking it in at awards shows.

Funny quote from Salon.com. He rather liked Taylor Swift...but what were you expecting from this movie, people? I mean really?
"Who else is deployed herein, to minimal effect? Hell, who isn't? Julia Roberts actually has a fetching cameo as an Army captain, returning from overseas duty on a long plane flight, who develops a transitory something with her buff seatmate (Bradley Cooper). There's the tiniest germ of another, better movie in their unshared secrets, but I'm grateful not to see any more of the movie in which Shirley MacLaine and Elizondo play a later-life couple facing Important Realizations about their marriage. I bet you didn't know this, but old people can feel the pangs of love too! Also, they like gardening, and chinoiserie, and Willie Nelson's quieter, more noodly material.
"By the end of "Valentine's Day," well, you know what to expect: Couples have broken up and reassembled and reconfirmed their commitment and whatnot and we're all supposed to feel a little philosophical and wistful and maybe soggy inside. Queen Latifah has performed her designated role as the sexually ambiguous big black lady who gets no action, which is so retro I think that part of the movie came out before she was born. Marshall reportedly hopes to reassemble his cast for a New Year's Eve-themed sequel set in New York, in which Kutcher's florist will switch to dealing ganja in hipster Brooklyn nightclubs and Hathaway's phone-sex gamine will become a hard-boiled Long Island City stripper with four kids by different dads. OK, given that it won't be like that: I am powerless to stop that sequel from happening, but you, ladies and gentlemen, are not."

Posted: 2/12/10 at 7:44pmShe has no personality in her videos, no personality when she sings... I don't doubt it it carries over to her acting. I actually would like her to go away... at least for a while.

Posted: 2/12/10 at 8:18pmNo offense, JG2. If my love for Julia makes me gay (besides my love of the same sex) than I accept that. But I do love her. More than the ocean loves the sand and more than Bryan loves cast recordings.

Posted: 2/13/10 at 3:09pmAmazing they tried to make this very diverse, with the gay aspect and even adding George Lopez for the Hispanic token guy. But they couldn't squeeze in an Asian movie star. Oh, forgot, there aren't any... Sad. Sad. Sad.

We just got back from seeing it.
The movie is not a disaster. It is what it is supposed to be - mindless fluff. A good way to while away a few hours. Swift was probably the most annoying character in the whole thing. You just want to hit her repeatedly with a polo mallet. She is that
annoying.

I saw it on Valentine's Day, and actually...I sort of liked it. Yes, Swift is an abomination of every kind, and Taylor Lautner is so gay I thought about borrowing the sunglasses of the person next to me to shield my eyes from the flames (which is actually a GOOD thing, now that I think about it...), but it was overall a sort of enjoyable couple hours.
The entire movie was made worthwhile by Latifah, IMHO.

I saw it on Valentine's day, and it was actually pretty good. Yes, Taylor was bad, but she wasn't in a lot of scenes. Anyway, the movie was enjoyable and it was so much better than "He's Just Not That Into You". I'd welcome a sequel.
P.S. There were Asians in the movie, but I get your point though. The only Asian stars I can think of other than Jackie Chan are Ken Watanabe and Lucy Liu.

Posted: 2/17/10 at 12:42pmI enjoyed this movie FAR more than I expected. The Taylors were mindless, and could have been dropped from the movie, but you could make that argument about most of the characters.

I don't know why, but I really want to see this movie. I watch so many dark movies that once in awhile it's good to just see something like this that has absolutely no issues.

Wow, that's surprising. I think the best part of HJNTIY is Drew Barrymore and her gays, by far.
