Everyone is talking about it this week. I don't think the guy in the jacket should have been arrested, I think he should be given a medal.

No one in that video comes off looking good - except maybe those who sensibly fled. Had I been 8-ball jacket guy, I do think I would have walked away from the verbally abusive woman, and moved to the next car at the next stop before the situation had a chance to escalate - but once attacked, I am sure I would have defended myself. I am mildly curious as to what started the altercation, since the video starts in medias res, but there can be no good reason for any of it.

8-ball jackets were a factor in many violent robberies and even a few killings back in the early 90's. They were expensive and highly-prized for some inexplicable reason. So absurd that an article of clothing could be the source of so much turmoil.


eta: I was mistaken when I said "No one in that video comes off looking good" - at the end of it, there are several young men who break up the fight and try to calm everyone down. Their actions were commendable. That took a lot of courage, imo.

I don't usually condone violence and in his defense Jorge Pena, the young man wearing the 8 ball jacket did walk away. Miss Thing wasn't having it though and kept her sh*t up and that's why she got clocked.

For every action there is a consequence. She's lucky all she got was that slap from him.

This made me think of ex-con Rayon McIntosh, who was attacked by two women as he worked at a McDonalds (perhaps not so oddly quite close to where the women of this recent incident got on the train, and also at a late hour). Initially, he was made out to be a monster - and his reaction was violent - one of the women ended up with a fractured skull and arm.

Eventually, though, charges were dropped against him and the women were prosecuted, though they served no time.

That is great news! Sucks that he had to spend four nights in jail. He should have been given a 5-star hotel room.

I don't think he did anything wrong. And I don't think the girls should be allowed to terrorize people, forcing bystanders or victims to change cars. They get their permission to behave the way they do by the ambivalence and submission of others. That's exactly why they behaved the way they did and clearly they had plans to escalate their punishment. Not just on him, but anyone that struck their fancy for as long as they wanted.
