Easy to say^, but why should he have to retreat with his tail between his legs. He did NOTHING wrong. At all. Only so much sh!t a human being should have to put up with.

If we're not having fun, then why are we doing it? These are DISCUSSION boards, not mutual admiration boards. Discussion only occurs when we are willing to hear what others are thinking, regardless of whether it is alignment to our own thoughts.

dramamama-easy for YOU to say. You don't know what sh!t I take on a daily basis at WORK. I don't HIT anyone. I have as much cause (if not more) to be upset with my boss but I don't HIT him. Why? Not just because I'll get fired, but because I was taught that physical violence isn't the answer to any problem. You sometimes have to be the bigger person and know that you're right. That's all.

I didn't mean to imply that "you" couldn't -- just that there's the way many of us would HOPE we'd react, and they way we actually do. Until each of us is faced with the same scenario, we really don't know how we'll react.

Nobody is hitting me (frankly, I'd rather have that than the stuff I put up with). I don't wear an 8 Ball jacket (not my style). But frankly for as long as I've put up with it, I'm shocked I don't just hit someone-and I don't.

dreaming, the guy didn't slap her because of the verbal abuse she hurled at him, he slapped her because she HIT him - with high heeled shoes - to the point that he was treated at a hospital for it.

As for leaving the scene before it escalated? Maybe the doors were locked. He has a speech impediment - perhaps he's mentally challenged. Maybe he didn't think of leaving. Bottom line is he didn't slap her until she struck him, with high heeled shoes. People have been killed with high heel shoes.

He showed remarkable restraint and it's absurd that he spent time in jail and she did not, especially since he had to be treated at a hospital and she was charged with using a weapon. A felony.

I don't think he should get a medal, but I am glad the charges were dropped.

You can see he was smiling too at the beginning of the video. He was taking the taunts in stride. It wasn't until she hit him that he hit back. She's lucky too that it was only a slap. A guy his size could have thrown her to the other side of the train. So he did exercise restraint.

I kinda cheered when he finally stood up to her.

I don't condone violence of any sort, but if some belligerent woman is gonna come at me and attack me with her pointy stilettos then she's getting floored. She wanna come at me like a dude then she better be prepared to take a blow like a dude.

It'll never happen when humans interact,

but I wonder what wouldve happened if everyone on that car sat silently, not saying a word, not interacting with her at all...being invisible. Kind of like a scream in the forest...if no one hears your rant, will you stfu? More of a Twilight Zone episode perhaps. Ignore someone and they have no one giving them negative attention. You still might get punched however.

I remember an early 1960s movie with a teenaged Martin Sheen about a subway incident exactly like this. Can't remember the name of the flick?

I think it's hard when somebody is demanding your attention and escalating in volume to not respond when she finally crosses some sound level at which she becomes unbearable, if only to say, "Shut up, please."

Preach. Physical force is always an option when it comes to self-defense. The flee-or-fight mechanism is different for each of us depending on the circumstances. I oppose the initiation of force but see no virtue in opting out of self-defense or failing to at least attempt to protect a loved-one.

The New York Post is reporting that the girl's name is Shanique Campbell but it was previously reported that her name was Danay Howard and that Campbell was her friend that was also arrested.

Either way, I am glad that Jorge Pena's charges were dropped.

For everything that I have read on this incident (down to webpage comments section...not counting the typical racist garbage will find), the response to Pena's actions have been mostly supportive. The majority seem to feel that the girl got what she deserved.

Not that I am concerned with Danay Howard's feelings, but she must be humiliated.
