I use WW online--you enter your foods and it adds it all up for you. It has a points calculator and lists of foods. No meetings! There is a message board if you need help.
Counting is so easy if you are one who eats the same foods a lot of the time or if you get into a routine that you like. And, basically, you start to learn what portions of food to eat. It starts to become second nature.

I need the meetings. They help me to focus and to hear other members weekly experiences.
But Jerby is right, after a while counting does get automatic...but I still need to write it down!

Once you start figuring it out, you can also do a seat-of-your-pants calculation. As long as you remember that fat and fiber do influence the points, you can basically look at 50 calories as one point. That gives you a small way to handle it when you're out and about, but remember that a high fat/low fiber item is going to be higher than the 50/1 ratio.

Posted: 3/1/06 at 11:14amI'm down 10 pounds this month using the too poor to eat and killing myself in three hours or rehearsal every evening diet. It's working well for me. Who'd have thought getting laid off would be a blessing in disguise!

Colleen, take care of yourself! My 2nd brush with weight loss happened when I first moved to NYC and would find myself surviving Monday-Friday on a total of $6. I ate Tiger bars and ramen noodles and lost 15 pounds. It came flying back on when I found some cash, though. So, use this time to find a way to eat right if you can. Or, if your financial situation turns around, use THAT time to make healthy/portion control choices.

Patronus - my brother sent me something similar, so I think I may be all set! I also have my points ruler from when I did this like - five years ago. Thanks!
I can't follow WW to the letter. I've tried and I go crazy. But it helps to know how many points are in something so you can "budget" it.
But, I cannot (will not) give up chocolate chip cookies completely! So I'll be able to budget them in.

Exactly! And the weekly points let you do that. I haven't given up any foods I love (though I wasn't eating so many high point foods before joining (like McDonald's, etc).
My first week, I had beer and ice cream--I lost weight. I just didn't have a whole pint or 7 beers or something.

The Chips Deluxe 100 Calorie Packs are excellent and are only 2 points.
Problem is, they are hard to find. I came across a store that had them and bought out their entire stock.

Posted: 3/1/06 at 2:05pmLast week I gained .6 pounds. I was so mad. I know I am not going to lose that much this week since I just CAN NOT get myself to eat right for nothing. But, hopefully I will lose that .6 pounds or maybe even 1 pound.

Every so often you will gain .5 - a pound.
I went through a 2 month period where I lost a pound, gained a half, lost a pound, gained a half, lost 1.5, gained a pound or a half--that kind of thing.
The important fact is that over time the weight went down.

To the points pros (some people can do points in their sleep!),
I left my lunch and my points counter home today...so I had to have lunch from the cafe. Any idea (roughly) how many points in the following?
3oz turkey breast (3 or 4?)
1 slice wheat bread (small slice 1 or 2 points per slice?)
1 c chicken noodle soup (roughly 3?)
Thanks in advance! This will determine what I can have for a 4:00 snack.. :)

Posted: 3/6/06 at 12:44pmJerby, that's why I try not to weigh myself more than once every other week. I start obsessing and that's NEVER a good thing.

This is a place that we can complain, right?
As some of you know, I've been struggling with the program lately, mostly due to my dislike for working out.
Well, I finally got motivated, and worked out four times two weeks ago. Then, last weekend, I fell and sprained/fractured my ankle...so I can't work out. I'm so pissed.

Posted: 3/7/06 at 6:46amAH, I forgot to tell you guys and gals how my weigh in went last week. When I stepped on the scale, the woman (who has the same last night as me by the way) told me I lost . . . . . 4 POUNDS!!! I was floored since I thought I did bad with eating out at Olive Garden, Zaxbys (a chicken place), McDonalds twice, etc. I was giddy the rest of the night and then I came home and read the comments from BWW IDOL about my song. hahaha. Seriously though, it felt great.

Ladies and gentlemen,
I offer you up my very secret website. It's an invaluable tool for counting calories on things when you can't really do more than estimate what it is you're eating.
Just input everything you're eating in quantities and ounces and so on and it'll add up the nutritional information of the food. Of course, with WW, what you're looking for is calories, fat and fiber, which it gives you.

Jenny Craig is still doing right by me... I weighed in on Sunday and I've lost 19 pounds so far! (6 weeks total)
No big secret. I'm just sticking to their planned program (as opposed to "customized"), and I'm working out regularly.

Progress...
As I've stated (quite passionately) before, I have never been a huge fan of WW. So I'm following it as a guide, but not to the letter. At any rate, I've been counting points loosely, but focusing mroe on portion control and working out with more cardio.
Lost two pounds since last Monday. Hooray. Now maybe I can wear my pink tights to ballet this week!
You guys are a big help, muchas gracias!

Week 5:
Starting Weight: 221.5
Last Wednesday's Weight: 209
Today's Weight: 208.5
Only .5, but I'll definitely take it considering how I ate while the Oscars was on. This week I am getting back to business and incorporating some exercise in, so I am hoping for a bigger loss next week.

Don't let that .5 discourage you! You will even have a week every so often where you don't lose or you "gain".
And, yes, WW gets you through the Oscars, Christmas, and NYE feeling victorious! :)

Using my warped peach WW logic, today, I "traded" my sandwich bun and cheese for a nice, soft-baked cookie. A chocolate chip cookie at that, which I must say - was loads more fun.
Took the sandwich insides (grilled chicken, lettuce, tomato) and put them on a nice, crunchy veggie salad instead. Worked out well and I got my sweet fix. And same points.
It's the little changes such as these, that seem to do me best - because I'm in the 18-23 points range, and it stinks having so few. Makes me work out more so I can get "extra points."
Hey, whatever works, right?
Good luck to y'all.
