Say what you will, but I actually thinks this looks good. I had my doubts when I heard about the premise but I can actually see a possible good movie in this trailer.

Is this actually going to be released?? I'll put aside my feelings for Mel as long as I get a new Jodie Foster movie, especially one she directed as well.

It doesn't have US distribution yet. It's being released in Europe early next year.

"You travel alone because other people are only there to remind you how much that hook hurts that we all bit down on. Wait for that one day we can bite free and get back out there in space where we belong, sail back over water, over skies, into space, the hook finally out of our mouths and we wander back out there in space spawning to other planets never to return hurrah to earth and we'll look back and can't even see these lives here anymore. Only the taste of blood to remind us we ever existed. The earth is small. We're gone. We're dead. We're safe." -John Guare, Landscape of the Body

http://www.deadline.com/2010/12/release-date-for-mel-gibson-in-the-beaver/

I'm hearing from myriad insiders that Summit Entertainment has scheduled the Jodie Foster-directed film The Beaver starring Mel Gibson for Spring of 2011. Once the studio decided not to give the film an Oscar qualifying run, it was just a question of when the best release date was. I also hear that Entertainment Tonight is airing the trailer on Friday night's show. The film was supposed to debut in 2010 but the studio delayed when Mel's rants against his ex-girlfriend became a matter of public record. But Jodie has described Gibson's performance as "one of his most powerful and moving performances". (Although Gibson has 2 Oscars at home for directing and producing 1995’s Braveheart, he has never been nominated for his acting.) In the film, Gibson plays a father who walks around talking to a beaver hand puppet. In the fall, a CBS News/Vanity Fair poll that found 76% of respondents saying Gibson’s personal troubles would have no effect on whether they would see one of his movies. Though Hollywood has a history of forgiving the man and not forgetting the moviemaker (Elia Kazan, Roman Polanski, Woody Allen, Oliver Stone), it's not clear what the public thinks. Summit faced a difficult dilemma given Gibson's domestic disputes and the alleged racial slurs and sexist epithets and alleged physical and verbal abuse of his girlfriend that's come out from behind closed doors. However, it's long been my stated belief that, if a litmus test were given for behavior, nobody would ever work in showbiz again. Ever since he made The Passion of the Christ, audiences have rewarded Gibson with their moviegoing loyalty despite his personal travails. Trust me, Mel's base is still out there. When I revealed that Gibson's agency WME Entertainment had fired him because Mel allegedly used the "n-word" racial slur during a private domestic quarrel, 50% of all the comments flooding in to Deadline were willing to give Gibson the benefit of the doubt and defend him.

I've been waiting to see this film made since I got my hands on a script back in '08. This looks great, and Mel Gibson's performance seems flaweless. I'm sure he'll be fantastic in the movie. I don't know, I just like to give credit where credit is due. Whether or not the person is an asshole.

I believe in separation of actor and personal life. When I was young, my dad wouldn't let me see Julia because of Hanoi Jane Fonda and PLO Vanessa Redgrave. These are 2 of the best actors of our time. I remember working with someone who refused to see a Robin Williams project because she thought he left his first wife for the nanny. In this day and age of so many gossip and tabloid shows, it's hard to know what to believe. To me a gifted actor is a gifted actor. just sayin'

Yes, Talent is talent no matter what a-hole it is attached to. If his acting work is good and the movie well made I will see it despite what I think of his personal life.
Man, if some of my private rants and drunken arguments were made public I'd never work a day in my life again!

Hmmmmmmm anyone want some home recordings?!?

The script before it got picked up won the distinction of being on The Black List for best un-produced screenplay.

As for people who refused to see certain actors I think my mother takes the cake as she seems to have an issue with Liam Neeson. But she forgets what for. She remembers him saying something about women or something like that, but nothing concrete enough to remember what he said about women except that it rubbed her the wrong way.

Sorry. I'm one that will not give a penny of my money into that man's pocket. His hateful racist and anti-semetic remarks put him on my no watch list.

My brother is the same way. Refuses to see anything with Sean Penn because he is a communist.(LOL)AN actors political views are what he looks for. That sort of thinking is just insane!

If it's an important thing to a person, then good for them. I wouldn't donate to a political campaign financially if I don't agree with who the person is or what they stand for. I don't see how this is any different. I don't want MY money going to someone whose beliefs personally offend me.

Are there actors/business/individuals that are smart enough to hide their feelings? I'm sure there are, and I'm not going investigating. But when one allows it to be bandied about in public, I will draw a line in the sand.

So, if there's one actor in a movie that you particularly loathe but the other actors are champions of causes that you passionately believe in- you would boycott the entire project just because of one of the actors? Those poor other actors and crew got stuck in a movie with a bad person and now they are punished for it- even if they may not have known about it when they filmed the project? Just playing Devil's Advocate. Kelsey Grammar is a staunch Republican and Patricia Heaton loves Sarah Palin and yet I love their shows. I also love Jodie Foster too but people in my neck of the woods will not see her projects because she is a lesbian- I live in the bible belt and of course do NOT believe that.

ah shucks.. Mel Gibson is a nice guy after all.

Who cares if he is a hypocritical, racist, anti-Semite, misogynistic, homophobe?

He could molest children too, but that wouldn't matter. On screen (which is more important than the real world) he is always the good guy. I'll support that. Let me get out my wallet.

Supportive Mom: Yup. While I realize my lack of a ticket or dvd sale, won't amount to a hill of beans (EITHER WAY) I need to do what I believe is right.

You can rationalize ANY choice you make, one that is the easy way out, about anything.

And I really don't see how someone being a republican OR a Sarah Palin supporter is quite in the same category: but if it DOES bother you as Gibson's anti-gay, anti-woman, anti-Jewish beliefs bother me....then shame on you for patronizing them.

And as I said, I don't go looking for their personal beliefs but when I DO know them, I cannot look the other way. How anyone can support hypocritical, racist, anti-Semite, misogynistic, homophobe is beyond me -- but as long as you enjoy your movie.

"He could molest children too, but that wouldn't matter..."

Hey, it didn't seem to stop people from praising Michael Jackson. Maybe Mel needs to die to be considered great again?

I really don't see this as supporting Mel Gibson, in MY case anyway. I've never been a fan of his and the only thing I've really sat down and watched him intentionally in, was Pocahontas. So yeah. But I see this as supporting a good movie. Not the actor in it. Sure, he gets a cut. What's it matter? He already has more money than any of us could ever dream of, it won't hurt him if you refuse to see a movie because he's in it. And a good performance is a good performance. While you may hate the guy, you can't say he's not acting well in that trailer. I hate him for everything he's said and done too, but I'm not going to discredit him for something he's done well.

I can't believe people are watching this trailer without keeling over laughing. This plays like some particularly hilarious Andy Samberg SNL Digital Short. I just can't believe this -- I'll bet cash money that this script originated as a pitch for a Will Ferrell comedy and wound up in the hands of someone who didn't get the joke.

Poor Jodie Foster. All those years as a pathetic closet case have finally destroyed her mind.

The Beaver speaks! Rich white depressed people get richer! Families are healed through the POWER OF THE BEAVER!!!!

Being racist, anti-semitic, mysogynistic and homophobic are not political beliefs.

I don't care who he votes for. I care who he hates. And since the list is long, I choose not to put a dime in his pockets. And yes...you can be sure that Mr. Gibson has some sort of the back-end deal with this (and every) picture.

Many people DID stop supporting Jackson. Not, perhaps, the majority of his fans -remember his fanbase is global in numbers, but a large enough chunk directed their worship and dollars elsewhere.

Here is the deal: Yeah, sure it may be a good film.. it may even be a GREAT film, but there are MANY MANY MANY great alternatives to spending my time and entertainment dollars. On my deathbed I won't feel remorse if I didn't see THE BEAVER.

The idea of plunking down my hard earned dollars, sitting in a movie theatre for two hours of my life and staring at images of Mel Gibson is stomach churning to me.

Especially if I'm sitting with my jewish buddy and his black wife.

I don't need to be entertained that bad!

EDIT: I'm putting my money where my mouth is. I just donated $15 to THE NATIONAL COALITION AGAINST DOMESTIC VIOLENCE.

That is what - I expect - I would have spent on a ticket to THE BEAVER.

I doubt watching THE BEAVER would have made me feel as good about myself as I do now.

Who discredited as an actor? I don't care if he puts on the best performance in the world. I won't pay money to see him, nor will I allow his face to be present in my living room.

A reprehensible human being has NO place in my life.
