McCain is scoring big points on foreign policy.

Unless someone slips up majorly- like saying Poland is not dominated by Russia- or someone scores a devastating point (You sir are no John F. Kennedy!) the debates are a game of back and forth and gains or losses are measured in inches.

This is reminding me of the debate episode of The West Wing. Why can't we have a debater like President Bartlet? Sigh.

Ouch! Come on Obama! I know you can do better than this.

Yep. Just now that was a slam dunk.
McCain made Obama looked amateurish and naive.
Ouch.

Did McCain say that Kissinger DOESN'T believe in meeting with Iran? Because it sure seemed to me he did...
Yesterday five former American secretaries of state including Republicans Henry Kissinger, Colin Powell, and James Baker all reaffirmed their support for direct talks with Iran. Kissinger went as far as to say that there must be high-level talks with the Iranians “without conditions.” These statements reaffirm Barack Obama’s position for the need for tough direct diplomacy with Iran. Even the Bush administration has started to come around after years of pursuing a failed policy of refusing to engage. It is only John McCain who continues to call this approach “naïve” and instead clings to a reckless strategy that has clearly failed to make us safer.

The squiggly lines don't like McCain's answer about Russia.

Notice how often McCain says that "doesn't understand" phrase...Karl Rove must have come up with that.
Plouffe and Axelrod didn't arm Obama with enough debate-winning soundbites.
Obama should prepare for debates as well as he prepares for speeches--or better!

Is McCain really doing that much better than Obama? Im not seeing it. I could be blinded by my rage, though.

No. It's an evenly matched debate. If you hated Obama going in, you still do.

For what it's worth, I've been checking various blogs at political sites, and this isn't being scored as a major 'win' or 'loss' for anyone yet. Could be that Clinton supporters are judging Obama overly harshly? She is a much better debater than either Obama or McCain.

Obama was forced to say "Let me correct that..." over and over. That kept him on the defensive.
He should have been out front, forcing McCain to clarify over and over and over.
He's just not tough enough on McCain. He's too much of a gentleman.
He needs bigger balls to beat Republicans.

The analyst scores (on the sides of the HD screen on CNN) are giving this whole thing to Obama.
They are more concerned with the content of the answers.
Americans are always more concerned with the "tone" of the answers.
It's the same thing where the critics love a movie that tanks, and blast a movie that becomes a monster hit.
The people will decide this election. Not the analysts. They never have.
Obama is doing a little better now, I think...
I hope.

Again! That damned "Senator Obama just doesn't understand..."!
Aarrrggh!
Obama needs a strong left-jab catchphrase like that.

I like Obama, but IMO, he's not doing as well as I would have hoped. He seems to be stammering a bit.
McCain is coming off a lot better than I had expected.
