Hillary Clinton's statement about the debate
Hillary Clinton's statement on the debate:
"Tonight Barack Obama displayed beyond a doubt that he understands both the gravity of the financial crisis facing America, and the challenges we face in Iraq and around the world. Senator McCain offered only more of the same failed policies of the Bush Administration. America deserves better."
“I stood next to Barack Obama in 22 debates and tonight epitomized why millions are joining me in standing with him and working hard to ensure he is the next President of the United States.”
Gooo Hillary!!!
Great statement from Hillary!
It's important to remember that the McCain campaign virtually ceded the experience argument by choosing Palin, and embraced, or at least tried to, the change theme. Tonight, it looked like McCain tried to swing the debate back to experience, but his condescending tone may not have played well with independents and undecideds.

This debate will not be judged by soundbites! I hope that those who watched the debate were interested in answers. Obama was great and McCain was very good. There is only a few % that separate the two. References to Reagan by McCain?
Obama needs to hire her statement writers. They know how to "button" a thought. He rambles on and on and loses steam.
Here's a link to a CBS poll of undecided voters. Initial responses are 40% Obama, 22% McCain, 38% tie. Numbers may changes as responses continue to come in.

My quick thoughts on the night:
Niether were fantastic, but I really did think Obama won by a LITTLE bit. They both skirted around the issues, but they BOTH ramble like crazy, and Obama at least comes ACROSS... better.. when he rambles. haha
Over all, I'm *very cautiously* optimistic. I'm watching streaming coverage on CNN right now, and they're saying that basically this was one of McCain's stronger suites- foreign policy- and so he really needed to win tonight by a noticable margin. And he DEFINITELY did not do that. At best it was a straight tie. So... hopefully this will cause the numbers for Obama to rise
Analysts are also saying tha the "John is right" comments may work very well in communicating Obama's willingness and ability to bring together and work with both parties in a positive way.
Obama's best--and strongest!--part of the foreign-policy debate:

I actually would kind of have to agree with that! It scares me a *little* because I worry that other people might not see it that way, but I personally LOVE that Obama is really very very... non-confontational. That's the VAST basis of his appeal. He's a unitor. He's a public speaker. He's running his campaign positively as opposed to how most politicians run their campaigns, by pointing out their oponents flaws. He's defending himself when he needs to, but other than that he's really trying to show why he will be a GOOD President, rather than McCain's strategy of showing why Obama will be a BAD Priesident. This is really risky, and that's why it worries me, but if it DOES work, it will work quite well I think. It just depends how the public as a whole takes it.
It was basically a push - which means a win for Obama. He looked comfortable, confident and Presidential - on the subject matter that was supposed to be his weakness.
I thought McCain did a good job, but it was expected.
McCain's contempt for Obama kept showing through, and some commentators are saying he appears to be condescending and snarky.
All in all, this will help more than hurt Obama.
non-confrontational? how many times did he interrupt? if that's non-confrontational, i'm a llama.

Y, I agree. Good night for Obama! Obama's body language showed confidence.
well what a night i had! i get home, put my PJs on, getting the tostitos ready... i'm sitting on the couch ... and monica walks in from work and says SURPRISE! get dressed we're going to the alanis morissette concert at radio city for your birthday!!
well holy ****! i'm excited, woo-hoo... but the debates!! haha. :)
so we just got home and i started it and so far i dont think obama is doing bad at all. i think mccain is doing fine but he's coming off way way way too "relaxed" like he's not passionate about what he's saying.
obama is speaking very strongly and with great conviction!
maybe it goes down hill from here?
I'm also hearing that John McCain "needed for this to be a big win, but that didn't happen."
Take that as you may.
i'm shocked that bww declares it a win for bammy.
bammy held his own in the 1st half but mac waylaid him in the 2nd and he who wins the 2nd half wins. bammy looked angry and came across as a long-winded scold.
John McCain did appear to be smirking a lot.

ahhh but he was interupting almost always, if I recall correctly, in response to McCain's SLAMING him. That's not confrentational, it's defensive :) Defensive is very good- it's necessary. It would NOT be a good thing if McCain was making all these comments about him that could very well be legitimate and he did nothing to say "um, no?" haha. But I really didn't think he was confrentational. There were VERY few times, if any that I recall, where he actually flat out slammed McCain when it wasn't in response/defense to anything like McCain did him.

I think that Obama saying that he agrees with McCain was a pretty good move on his part it simply showed how he'd be as a president instead of keeping people (ie: Dems, Repubs, Americans in general) at arms length he showed how he reacts to those with different views than him.
McCain did look pretty strong, but after the first 4 "Obama doesn't understand" remarks he just came off as petty as if he was saying "I know you are, but what am I."
Needless to say I was very annoyed by McCain. But Obama held his ground and did a great job. Overall I'd say it was: Obama 54%; McCain 46%

If a community as partisan as this one considers it basically a draw, I wonder how the general electorate feels - considering they skew conservative.
for what its worth theres a poll at FoxNews where Obama has 47% and McCain 43%. i'm still only about 30 min in...

Q, I disagree. This is a different year. The partisan in me did not expect any knock down by Obama, McCain is astute and he has years of foreign policy experience. I expected McCain to do well.
If Biden does not "win" over Palin, then there is a major problem.
