For those who haven't seen the trailers yet, this is a British film about six women who encounter supernatural creatures during a caving expedition, and try to escape.
It opens in the US tomorrow, and the reviews have been very, very positive. It's even been called one of the scariest movies of the past decade by quite a few critics.
Anyone seeing it?

I will probably be the first person in line.
It looks absolutely *sickening*...
...and that's my favorite kind
I, too can't wait to see it!
If you are even slightly claustrophobic, you'll be in distress, watching this film. Very bloody.
Looks like a gore-fest. Not my kind of horror flick. Wolf Creek bored me to tears and I refuse to see Hostel. Pulse looks more interesting to me.
Someone I know saw it today and they are the hardest critic I've ever met and they said it was absolutely INCREDIBLE and it was the best horror film in at least 20 years. She said the women are each brilliant delivering truly amazing performances (something she hasn't seen since Sigourney Weaver in ALIEN). She said the script is fluent and inventive and the direction is flawless. She highly recommends it, something rare for her, so I'm rushing to see this one ASAP LOL.

Drat! I thought this thread was about the second act of a HELLO, DOLLY! revival!
I actually found these women to be a bit tedious; but I can see someone else liking them. Well, as actresses, they were fine. We have a different ending from the UK version.

I really want to see this movie, as I haven't seen a horror movie that actually scared me in a long, long time. All of these hped gorefests have been the biggest letdowns! "Saw" had an interesting premise that was poorly executed, and "Hostel" was one of the biggest pieces of s**t that I've ever seen.
However, reviews for The Descent sound promising, and my friends in the UK love it. I'm mad, however, that they cut down the ending for the US release. The original ending sounds much more terrifying. And I'm claustrophobic as all hell, so this sounds like a nightmare for me.
I've heard really good things about it, but I think I'll end up passing. I do enjoy a good scary movie, but not an all-out blood bath, as it sounds this is. I'm just a big ol' baby, I guess.
They didn't change the ending for the U.S., to tone it down, they changed it, because so many people in the U.K. complained about hating the ending.

I didn't say anything about it being cut to tone down the film. I just think the original ending sounds much scarier. Perhaps not necessarily better, but I don't go in expecting Shakespeare with gory horror movies. I just expect to be scared. If the general consensus is that the original ending sucked, well -- I'll just have to wait and see.
I'm seeing it tomorrow, but from what I've heard... If you don't like gory movies, then you should still check this one out. Apparantly, there is more suggestion than anything else.
I saw this movie last night and thought it was great. It is gory with a lot of blood. Also, it is very psychological not knowing what is lurking around you in the darkness. Very well done.
Does anyone know what the original ending was that got changed for the US release?

Not sure the new ending is an improvement. It's a tad more upbeat, I suppose.

I've sent you a PM.

It's not a definative ending. It leaves it up to the viewers interpretation of what happened. That's why I was interested in hearing what the original ending was that got changed.
Thanks for the PM John. I just read it after posting my previous message.
The UK ending really wasn't that much different than the US version.
Saw the movie last night, and it was incredibly intense. I think it had only one flaw - showing the creatures a little too much - but other than that, this is tremendous entertainment. Many, many shocks and surprises. I jumped out of my seat on numerous occasions, as did the rest of the audience.
Oh, and I definitely lied before... This movie is graphic. Shattered bones, shattered, throats getting slashed, spilled guts, and so on. Great stuff.

you took the words out of my mouth. seriously, are we one person?
Just got back from seeing it. I really liked it. For a summer flick it was pretty fun. As others have said it is very graphic and I could definitley say my stomach was a bit qeasey (sp?) after seeing it. But it was a lot of fun and my friend and I jumped and screamed and had a great time. I sort of was pissed at a little bit of the ending but now I'm really curious as to the UK ending. Can anyone fill me in?
what?
